Hoosierdaddy
Since balsa does not absorb water and rot is it neccessary to primer it or can it just be shot with white paint first? Does anyone see a p[roblem with using thinned Devcon as the sealer/primer on balsa?
Guest Anonymous
I hit everything with spray can grey auto primer. Its cheap and I polish it with scotchbrite cloth before going to paint. Make a VERY smooth painting surface. Never had any paint fail. woodenfeather
I would say definetly use devcon as a sealer/primer on balsa. I wouldn't thin it unless your trying to spray it on. If you don't use it as a sealer than you'll have to put on no less than two topcoats of epoxy. I had a bunch of lures I had to add another coat to because they don't hold up. Balsa is just to soft and relies on the epoxy for strength.
Guest Anonymous
Ya he is right. I put on two coats of devcon on top of the paint as my final finish. Chip
