Vodkaman
My TU display has narrowed! It started last night. My laptop is wide screen, now I have 2 inches of redundant display down each side. I am really hoping that this is a temporary problem and it will be returned back to normal soon. Is this just my computer or is it a TU site thing?
bgcountry00
I don't seem to be having any problems that I notice
Vodkaman
Thanks for the reply. I guess it's just me then. I was flipping through, reading posts. I pulled up the next one and the screen changed. The effect is very irritating, any ideas? I've checked the 'display' setup in 'control panel', but everything seems fine. Don't know why I posted this here. Mods, if you want to tidy up, please move to a suitable location. Thanks. Edit: I just had one more try with the screen setup. I changed it to small, then changed it back again. BINGO! it worked. God I hate computers. Just 'cos I sit in front of one for twelve hours a day at work does not make me an expert. KcDano
I thought you might be drinking again!
Vodkaman
That might be a good solution. I'll try it, as the problem has returned and won't go away! I'm freakin' out. As soon as I pressed the send button for this reply, the screen snapped back to normal. Now where did I put that bottle of vodka?
Muskyman
Better get your computer checked, it's not the TU site Vodkaman. My TU display has narrowed! It started last night. Spike-A-Pike
Vman. It must be all that clean living... get a new bottle and break the seal and then start to use a few rattle cans and begin learning to paint. Between drinking and paint fumes, you should get a killer headache, take some Tylenol PM amd wake up Monday morning ready to face yet another computer. While you might hate them from a "user's" point of view, to learn to really hate computers, try being a system/network admin for a secure site that crashes during a time of a national emergency. Talk about getting complaints from high places, using harsh terms that questions your parents marrage certificate, I've had better days. If you are using Internet Explorer go to the 'page' tab on the menu bar and check you are viewing in 100% and not lower. philB
Vodkaman
I could not find a 'page tab'. The problem only occurs on the TU web site, all other sites are working as normal. This is very strange and frustrating. Edit: When I 'send' a post, the screen returns to normal for one page, but as soon as I move on, it narrows again! Spike-A-Pike
So Sinbad, is it true that using MS Exploder can cause E. D. bad enough that no amount of Harly riding or hot tub soaking will fix??? LoL...
Vodkaman
Oh no, it is the same on my works computer. This has to be a TU thing. Is there some setup icon that I haven't spotted yet?
Spike-A-Pike
Oh no, it is the same on my works computer. This has to be a TU thing. Is there some setup icon that I haven't spotted yet? I had a flipped order of posts issue a cople of weeks back. I had reset my preferences Tackleunderground > User Control Panel > Edit Options. Thers are several options to double check, but I didn't see anything for screen width. I know Jerry was making some updates Sat., any chance that this started up around that time? I am leary of suggesting this, but maybe a different web browser could help. I just love to hate the "things" a computer can put you through. Maybe just leaving it unplugged would help... my ex tried that thinking the actual CPU would refresh or flash itself after 24 hours. Happy she's my ex
Spike-A-Pike
I just loaded FireFox and the display is nice and sharp, but is actually a little narrower than in MS Exploder. But, the spell check program is finally working at the point of entry, I may not have to type it in MS Word, copy, and paste to TU Quick Reply. Wow Vman, thanks for helping me. Spike-A-Pike
The display width seems to change depending on whether the right side column is displayed or not. Right after you post... distracting, but workable.
Vodkaman
I don't follow. Are you saying that the right column can be switched off?
Spike-A-Pike
No, when you start from the top of the page, the left, center, and right columns are a set width and if all three are in view when you post, nothing much changes. If you start from the top of the page, the left, center, and right columns are a set width and if all three are not in view when you post, the right column remains unchanged, the center column gets wider and takes space from the right column, and part of the right column is pushed off the viewable screen and a a page slider, the part of the window used to shift the window left or right, appears. This is crazy!
Vodkaman
That probably explains why the screen temporarily returns to how I remember it when I post or PM, as these operations are done below the side columns, at the bottom of the page. But the two side columns should sit at the side of the page, not two inches into the screen. What burns me is that no one else has this problem. I have obviously disturbed something and it is stored in my users memory or profile, as it has transferred to my works computer.
hazmail
Dave - Don't panic, I have Firefox browser and mine is narrow too, must be an Asian thing . pete
Spike-A-Pike
This Breaking News... I asked Jerry "redg8r" about the screen flipping size and we're right, there was a change made on TU. Here's the answer I got... Hi Bruce, I tweaked the display to accommodate users with smaller screen ratios, particularly those using an 800x600 display. I agree it seems a little bunched up & might change it back, but for those with a 1000 pixel or smaller resolution, they will have to "scroll right" to see the entire page. Hope that makes sense, I just saw the thread where the guys were having trouble, if you want to copy me on this, feel free. Thank you, Jerry "redg8r"
