Gorilla Hunter
What is the lightest wire hooks yall have seen in a shakey head? Production or hand pour? I have searched everywhere for a shakey head with a hook as light as I want. No luck. I want to pour some with the lightest wire hook possible. Just not sure what that hook might be. I'm kinda new at this stuff. Thanks in advance
Zib
The lightest wire hooks that I have seen are Matzuo hooks. They only have a 90* JIG HOOK & NO 60*. They use a sickle style hook instead of the standard round bend or wide gap. I believe Cabelas sells them cheaper than anyone else.
Gorilla Hunter
Thanks Zib. Do you know of any shakys with this hook already in them?
Elken
What style of shaky heads do you want? The ones with the spring bait keepers? Or the regular ballhead style with a barb on the jig shank?
Zib
Thanks Zib. Do you know of any shakys with this hook already in them? No. I use that hook for my walleye jigs because they are cheap & still give me good hook-ups. Tried them on darterheads & had the larger smallmouths bending the hook. It's a very sharpe hook but not very strong compared to others. I prefer Owner hooks for my bass jigs. Check out the Owner 5318 hook. It's not as thin as the Matzuo. CullinHogs
If you are hunting Gorillas you better not use a light wire! I have one with a 4/0 gamma. I dont know how light you want. click on my link below and put this number in the search box. 320113630070 Tony
Gorilla Hunter
Thanks for all the replies. I think the Matzuo is what im looking for. I want the hook to have some give to it. Cullin, the shakys look good, but not what I am looking for this time.
Tony Maxwell
Have been using the Matsuo hooks for many years. They make "Sickle bend" worm and jig hooks which are very light wire, very sharp. They do have some give in them, but I have not lost a fish because of it. I live in SW Ohio and a "Big" bass is over 3 lbs.
tubetragger
just a side note to this thread....you can bend the 90 degree matzuo sickle hooks quite easily with a pair of needle nose, I use them in my molds that require 60 degree hook eye and have never had any problems with fish breaking hooks.....but I will admit to breaking a few during the bending process, about 1 in 10.....just a heads up.....jeff
Gorilla Hunter
Thanks again. A couple more ?'s while I am at it. What size and bend (if I bend myself) hook would yall recommend for the following: 1. 3/16 ounce ball head w/screwlock 2. 3/16 ounce football head w/screwlock 3. 1/4 ounce ball head w/screwlock 4. 1/4 ounce football head w/screwlock Sorry for all the questions. I've always used what you can buy at the tackle shop or internet. I am beginning to show to much attention to details. Would any of yall like to pour any of the above for me? I'll probably take 25-50 of each once I figure out exactly what I want. Thanks again
Zib
I prefer a 60* flat eye hook for my football jigs. I don't use ball head jigs. If I had the molds I would make some for you but I have to wait until I get more money to buy more molds. If there's no one on this site that can make them for you then check on Ebay. I've seen a lot of shakey football head jigs witht the screw locks on them.
