chirmy Posted April 10, 2008 Report Share Posted April 10, 2008 (edited) ICAST is closed to the public and very difficult to get into. I did it for Eric at Tacklemaking and for Jerry one year. Its all hype and all your stuff you invent on this site is usually on the big boy's tables at this event lol. The big prize is best of show and unless you have Roland or Jimmy in your booth or some fancy gimmmick you wont win ;o). We fish all year round out here and although it is hot in July, Mead is fun in the summer as long as you get out of the lower basin (pleasur boaters and jet ski's) The only down I see is cost as the economy and gas really suck. If anything, with a little gas money I can round up some club boats from the Federation and get as many as we can on the water if this goes. Next week is our State Qualifier and we are having Ray Scott out. Anyone wants to come he will be around all weekend April 18-20th at Cottonwood Cove on Mohave. If you go, redg8r would like somebody to do some reporting and take some photos and maybe some videos. Be cool if that would work out for you guys. Jerry gets me the Pass I will represent every summer as long as they keep comming back to Vegas. millsryno Posted April 12, 2008 Report Share Posted April 12, 2008 CA has got to be out with all the problems there. Phoenix has some nice lakes within a couple hours. Havasu and Powell are cool lakes. Depending where you come from, they might be hard to get to. Vegas is usually the cheapest place to fly in and out of and get hotels. Mead is just 1-2 hours away. The weather cools off in Oct/Nov and the fishing really picks up. I think Vegas is the best choice....sometime in late October/early November. Also with Vegas, people from AZ, Las Vegas and So Cal would likely tow their boats so you can pull boats from more geography. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The fish are aggressive and most of the time you can get a canyon to your self for fishing. Spring is better for the pan fish with the water rising into coves. Delw Posted April 13, 2008 Report Share Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) Laughlin is also a Kick butt place. you dont need to rent a car from the airport as its right across the river and they will ferry you over. and I think that is free or used to be. Lake Mojave is 10-15 mins away, the river is right there and Lake Havasu is 1.5 hours away.or you can go via boat 30 mins-40 mins. Davis dam at the base of Lake mojave has some awsum striper fishing, and bass fishing on the river south by boat 10-15 mins is fantastic. there are also launch ramps around the river and one casino has there own ramp for customer use. Iv'e parked my boat at the casinos many many times and never had a problem. My electronics and all my fishing stuff was on the boat as well with a very cheap cover that the wind usually blew off. Colorado bell has extended park and the last 4 trips I parked my boat there. there is a 24hour guard shack there with a guard. you have to show them your key to get in. best of all NO DRIVING if your not going to the lake so no need to rent a car. whats even cooler is its cheaper than vegas and less crowded. What kind of license would us California guys need? TJ Tj I think its a colorado river stamp but not sure. My state AZ borders all where as ca only borders the waters of havasu and south. Kelly, it's funny you say that...because that is exactly what I tell people all the time. lake Powell is my favorite place I have ever been. I've been fishing in AK, cruised the Bahamas, vacationed in Hawaii several times, been all over the US....but I'd pick Lake Powell over any of that and not just because of the fishing! If you guys haven't been, it's absolutely amazing! IMHO it's more awesome than the Grand Canyon and on the same grand scale! I just wish it were easier to get to so we could do a meeting there. Your referring the Annual Meet in Clinton, MO (aka: the mid-west in the States)... OldSchoolBasser was referencing the proposed West Coast TU Meet. This was an ongoing discussion that had dried up and withered on the vine. Maybe its time to take this idea off the shelf and dust it off. I think all those that attended in Clinton had a great time. How's about West Coast guys (or is it Dudes)??? This fall as the weather gets more comfortable might be ideal timing.... Just some "Mental Munchies" to chew on. CA, NV and AZ do not have any special restrictions on boats from out of state, some counties are more stringent than others. They do require removal of standing water from live wells, bilges and lower units. Self serve car washes with hot soapy water are highly recommended on the way home from the lake or a min of 5 days between wettings at the same lake. Some lakes in California have inspection stations as well as decontamination stations. Each state has non-resident licenses that range from 1 day to 10 days $12.60 to $38.85. Each state also has special stamps for the CA Delta and the Colorado River. Licenses can be acquired on line. Lakes that have been suggested are; California Clearlake Delta New Melones Silverwood Skinner Pyramid Castaic Nevada Mead Lahonton Laughlin Mojave Arizona Powell Havasu From the replies, it seems that late September through October will be best weather wise. We are going to need some lodging info. I can tell you the facilities (motels) around Clearlake, New Melones and the Delta are quite good and close to the water. Can we get some of you guys that live around the other locations to do a little scouting and report back by next week? I’ll see if I can get a poll going to narrow down the choices for a location. oldschoolbasser Posted July 10, 2008 Report Share Posted July 10, 2008 As for as Castaic,and Pyramid,there are plenty of motels close by.Pyramid has campgrounds,and there's a camper park close to Castaic.If we go to Mojave,or Havasu,there are plenty of places to stay.For Mojave,you could stay in Laughlin,or at the Avi Casino which is right on the River in Arizona,and only minutes away from Kathrin's Landing.There are also rooms at the Landing,but you'd have to call in advance for availability.A TripleA guide book should have listings for hotels in the area. That's true,but remember at that time of the year the weather's a little cooler,and fishing the Delta would be a unique opportunity for a lot of us.I have to say I love fishing Havasu more than Mojave because of the great smallmouth fishing.Clear Lake offers a good chance for a "BIG" fish,and some good size limits.But whatever we decide the purpose of the gathering is to meet fellow TU members,and share our passion for our sport,and tackle making. It did wonders for me. With everyone having a fisherman's background, the gift of gab allowed everyone to exchange "data" at lighting speed - nobody can type that fast. If your trying to put your finger on the pulse of the fishing world for your tackle making or fishing service, then this is a business trip and you'll need to keep track of your receipts for tax purposes - aren't business trips just a real pain???
