Making Molds & Pouring Questions...

Recommended Posts

2 Part Question:

I am trying to make some molds of some swimbaits that I have. My first attempt was 95% sucessful as I created a usable mold out of Plaster of Paris. I am not satisfied with the fine details of it though as it looks like there were some small bubbles in the plaster when I pushed the bait down into it. I want to try it again as I got my plaster way too thick before I put the bait in I think. Any suggestions here are appreciated as I could not find the article here on tu.com so I used instructions from bassresource.com.

Next, to pour swimbaits, what kind of plastic do you guys reccommend? Is Calhoun what I need? I plan to use the microwave to heat and only expect this to be a small scale operation to see what I can produce, and if I get some usable baits, I can trade with buddies. I want to start with a milk white color but would like to be able to pour the veins, layered colors that you see on most commercial baits. Will this even work with a PoP mold? What can you guys tell me?
