Basstrix Swim Bait molds

Recommended Posts

we put the dipping stiks on hold for a while early last month, tied up the machine and couldnt get anything else done.

we do have a mold for them that you do pour in through the nose. just like a stick mold and other 2 piece molds.

Has the cupped tail and is hollow through the tail. pretty much looks just like the real thing. They don't have a slit through the belly that you have to redip to close.

you can paint them and redip them if you wish or you can just pour them and use them like what comes out of the mold.

They are not on the shopping cart yet because I don't have enough stock yet.

del, can i buy one of the molds now ? im very interested in what you have.

i have created a stick / dipping stick mold myself out of a kitchen knife and spinner bait blade. it works, but it produces inconsistant baits. im looking for the mold type like you are referring to.

im sending you a pm, btw :)

here is the knife i created:

Loco - you dipping stick looks like it should work. What problems are you having?

oh yes, the blade works. in fact, ive made 3 more with slightly different pitches on the tail, and slightly different in the bellies.

what i dont like is that it produces inconsistant baits. it takes to much time, to much plastic. if you dont pull the plastic off the knife at just the right time, your bait is ruined. also, if you dont continually rotate, turn and spin the knife as the plastic is setting up, you end up with lumps or lopsided baits. to me, and this is just my opinion, the dipping stick is not the ideal way to make these.....

Can we make one of these basstrix swimbait molds out of PoP? Every picture i looked at it doesnt seem like the top of the bait is flat like you would get out of a PoP mold?

Kinda funny i was at bass pro yesterday looking at some and they had some on sale for $8 for 6 of em and they were not the even basstrix.

One thing to keep an eye on is berkley is coming out with their own swimbait sometime soon.

I'd like to try on and see what all the fuss is about but im sure not going to pay over $1 each for a plastic lure.

i have a custom made rtv mold ive been using. the mold is incredible. these are the baits it produces.

these are solid body, not hollow. im working on an idea to make these hollow, im very close. in another week or so, i will have hollow swimbaits from a mold, not a dipping stick.

btw, these swim really good. ive been rigging them by putting a coated nail in the belly and a worm hook out of thier back. the weight from the nail keeps them swimming belly down. the tail action is very good. these are 3".

i also have a mold for a smaller and skinner swim bait. it also works very well.

these are very similiar to the poor boys silly rabbit.

sure, when i get a chance i'll take a few pics.

people like the hollow belly because the bait collapses when a fish hits it. makeing hook sets easy. it also make a lighter bait.

ive been having fun with these. the molds are a rubber poured rtv molds. i contacted del to see how close he was to making a hollow body in aluminum. that would be really nice !

I have a POP 2 piece mold also.Im tryin to figure out how to make a hollow body too.let me know how it works out.

I made an insert out of thin sheet metal for Bob's 4" swimbait. First trace the out line of the bait and transfer it to the metal and leave a "tail" or "handle" long enough to reach the bottom of the mold. Tape the "tail" to the mold and make sure your insert is straight when you close up the mold. if you try to remove the insert and it tears up the bait do one of two things, dip the bait in clear plastic before removing the insert or reshape the insert until you can remove it with out tearing.
