robertjp
This looks so cool. Ive been making musky divers and spinners for awhile but Id like to try making some soft plastics. Is there a tutorial that explains what materials I need to buy and how to get started anywhere? Thanks BP
Big Splash
I'm getting started in plastics too. It has been quite easy. You will need; plastic, hardener, molds (puchase or build your own), colors, glitter (optional), pouring pot or pyrex measuring cup for the microwave, worm oil for mold release. A heat source such as a hot plate with a good thermostat control, or a microwave. VENTILATION. I have photos of a hand built mold on my web site. Most of the instructions can be found in the archives.

robertjp
Thanks. a few additional questions What colors are most popular.? Ill get an assortment but Im sure some are used more like black or white? Do I need an injector if I plan to make my own molds? What kind of scents are used? If you use salt, how muck? Is it regular table salt? If I buy 1 qt. of plastisol, how long will that last ($11.69)?? Do I need the "special glitter" or can I use regular glitter like at walmart? Do I need hardener? Thanks guys, you are the best! Bob P.
Big Splash
Get colors that are usefull in your area. You dont need an injector- most people start with a one piece, pour in mold. Scents- garlic is popular, as are shad, and crayfish. Anise is also a standby. Glitter must be able to handle the heat of the plastic- 360 deg. ? One gallon of plastisol will pour about 900 avg. worms. You will be able to re-melt your 'practice' pieces. You will need hardener.
alsworms
You will also need to buy the special glitter. The stuff you get at Walmart or other craft stores are not coated with polyester, so they'll all turn brown with heat. I recommend buying a gallon of plastic for starters. If you've never poured before, you'll go through a quart just trying to get it right. Make sure you keep your plastic mixed really well. Shake the jug before you pour. Once you pour a few decent baits, you'll be like the rest of us........Hooked! Chris
kidlizard
Good Luck getting started. If you have any questions about making your own plaster molds, I would be happy to help out. However to get started I would just buy a couple from lurecraft in the styles you might like. But when you get ready to make your own creation, just give me a shout and I will try to help you avoid some headaches I went through making my own molds.
