Rod advice

Recommended Posts

I want to try building a rod. What I want is a 5'0" Light to Medium, fast action rod. I want to put a tennessee handle on the rod. I will be taping the reel to the handle. I will be casting 1/16-1/4 oz lures, mostly 1/16-1/8. The rod will be used for bass fishing.

My first problem is I can't find a blank for what I want. My next question is what kind of guides would anyone recommend. I want good guides.

Any help will be appreciated. Pop

if you can't find one because of length (5'0") you can always buy a 5'6" and trim the butt section achieve the proper length. Lots of blanks out there, i like batson rainshadow RX7s, but for that size a st. croix should be pretty reasonable and probably a better choice. I like the Fuji concept alconite guides for a nice guide with a nice price. :)

With the lure weights you're stating and the fact that you're chasing Bass, I'd steer you towards a Spin Jig tapered rod.

Finding one at 5' or even 5'6" is going to be tough.

You could buy a 6 footer and cut a foot off. That will change the blank quite a bit and it is going to loose that reserve power and become slower in action.

Thanks for replying. I am looking at purchasing a Lamaglass blank LGC-LSJ700, 5'10" LINE 4-8, 1/32-1/4 OUNCE JIGS,

XMG Fast Action, Spin & Jig, .408 butt and 4.5 Tip.

I will cut it down to 5'0". What do you think? Thanks again for your help. Pop

That's probably going to be your best option. For Bass fishing, I wouldn't want anything other than a Spin Jig taper. You'll have a ton of feel with that 0 power. It's a great power for finesse fishing.
