Kribman
I don't know of any lexan dealers in the area, so my only supply for lips is from a large sheet of plexi-glass I have. I was wondering if they are really bad to use as lips. In what situations is plexi at its weakest? Thanks a lot guys!
Swede
In colder weather they become brittle & can crack on impact &to bend plexi you must heat them
jflures
Are you close to a home depot? They sell lexan sheets.
Kribman
Really? Thats great cause I went on their website and searched lexan and it came up with nothing. I guess I'll make a trip over there. Thanks. (I'll still probable use some plexi to get rid of it though)
BobP
Plexiglass is a trade name for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Lexan, a trade name for polycarbonate, has better impact resistance. Small 12"x12" sheets of polycarbonate are not very expensive and you can make quite a few lips from a sheet. You can order it in several thicknesses from mcmaster.com or buy it at home centers/glaziers. For bass baits, I mostly use 1/16" thickness. hazmail
Kribman - Don't even think about it, it's a no contest. Its no fun trying to remove a snapped lip, cold water and sunlight really harden plexiglass (read brittle hard). Get it right first go and use poly if you can get it. pete
Polecat
Most glass shops have Lexan. As said before, don't use plexiglass. It becomes brittle with temperature and time and cracks. It may be easier to buy from Jann's Netcraft.
benton B
Mcmaster Carr has about the best price I've found for 12x12 sheets of lexan. Stay away from the glass, it breaks.
Yake Bait
Go to your local glass shop and they probably sell scraps of either lexan or some other brand of polycarbonate. You will likely do better there than your local hardware store. There are a number of trade names for polycarbonate, lexan is just one brand of polycarbonate. The stuff is bullet proof... literally they make bullet proof glass from it. Safety glasses are also made from polycarbonate. As far as plastic lips are concerned it is the stuff to use. Hazmail is right, it is better to use the best material the first tiem than to repair with that material later.
mark poulson
There are different grades of polycarbonate. The Lexan brand is the purest I've found, and is, like the man said, bulletproof.

shadrap1769
McMaster Carr or look at a local hobby shop that sells RC cars. They use different thicknesses for bodies.
