JSC
The Pressure Cook Injection was used by Tom Mann in the old days. Regular Presto or Mirror Matic .. he added a valve to the lower side of it. Cooked the Plastic then locked her down to build up pressure and then shot in the mold (see attached photo of injection port) he told me some stories of blow ups .. so I never tried it. Note the larger hole in the sex ring is the injection .. the mold was laid flat with this side up the other half did not have any ports in it. I really would not advise using the pressure cooker as it could be real dangerous. (Young and a took some chances back in those days ... play it safe) JSC
JSC
Smallie The molds are cast aluminum. Made by Paul Ament the master of cast aluminum molds. He also made a lot of great precision jig & spinner bait molds by pressing a steel model into a block of aluminum. Thanx JSC
LedHed
The worm molds are Ament‘s too – WOW. JSC PM sent
JSC
Ament made a lot of molds for soft plastic. I have a big collection of custom work he did for me from 60 thru til the middle 70's various worms, shrimp tails (my specialty back in those days and I am reviving it now) bug tails and etc. We lost a real craftsman ... came by to visit me one time did not let me know he was coming and I was out on the road, so I missed him. He would be in "Hog Heaven" with some of the new stuff. Time marches on. JSC (LedHed, Got the PM & replied Thanx JSC)
Smallie
I have some Ament jig head molds and a small spinnerbait mold. I was not aware he made these by pressing a steel master into the aluminum. They don't look as crisp and clean as a Do-It mold but they pour fine. Delw
the best and safest pressure cookers to use are all american pressure cookers, preston and th other ones are cheap and won't hold the pressure as good, not to mention they are made from plastic parts. all american are all aluminium they are made with heavy alum and have a thick metal top. they have a twist locking system and locking screws for the top. if anyone makes one always use a pressure relief valve set at 15psi max. I have a bunch of customers that have used them for years
JSC
Smallie The regular Ament Molds were cast aluminum .. What he called the "Precision Molds" were the "Pressed" which I had him make for my custom jig molds. Del on the pressure cooker "shooting" what size cookers are most of them using? Delw
most guys are using the 10 quart, some are use the 25 quart for bigger baits. 10 quarts is more than enough for a pretty good size operation, and if you want to shoot a lot of different colors get a few 10 quart ones and you will have pleanty of plastic. some of the swirl baits and laminates that I have seen shot out of these are pretty cool also. One of my customers was shooting around 35lbs of pressure just playing, kinda crazy if you ask me and extreamly dangerous.
Smallie
All American is the brand name of the pressure pot Delw speaks of. It looks like this:
Jurgo68
How do you inject a mold off of one of these pots?
Delw
first you have to modify the pot. then there are a few different ways. some use hard lines some use hard lines that are heated. I built a press and it should be all automatic when I get done. I am just playing with it cause I have a few customers that use them and its easier for me to shoot there molds to see if they work, trouble shoot molds and make new molds etc. no one take this wrong, as I don't mean it to be mean. if you can't modify one of these pots or absolutely have no clue how they can work for injection DON'T do it. it will more than likely cause you harm. you need to have some back yard mechanical ingeniuity to figure this out. if your not mechanically inclined don't even think about doing this. Again I am not trying to be mean, but if you do something wrong you can hurt yourself very badly or worse hurt someone else. its just not worth it.
