raidergrad
Just made a couple of molds just to see if I could, and now I want to try to pour some swimbaits. If I am going to try the Calhoun plastics, which one do I need? Do I need the heat stabilizer or the softener or hardener? Plastic wise what do you guys reccommend? loco
ive been using lurecraft medium and have had good luck. the plastic is rigid enough to keep good tail action.
gunnie3035
IMO, it really depends on the bait or mold. What I would do is order a pint or quart of each and see which one works best for you. I use heat stablizer when pouring any light colored bait.
Smallie
You could order a gallon of mid-grade plastic and a pint of hardener and make the baits progressively firmer till you get the action you like. That way, you would have plastic for other baits. Buying pints or quarts gets expensive really fast.

You have to play around and find what works best for you. I have different formulas for different baits, types and sizes. Hardener is just a different firmness of plastisol and can easily be mixed with regular. A smaller swimbait might work best with let's say straight up "regular" whereas a larger swimbait might work better with a 3 parts reg to 1 part hardener or whatever you come up with.
