Jig Tying

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about trying my hand at some jig tying, IE: Marabou & Bucktail jigs. I like to use a method called "Float & Fly" on some of the lakes here and had some pretty good success with it last year. Now I'm thinking about making some of my own jigs.

I picked up a couple of books a while ago for fly tying as I may also give that a try some time down the road. But was wondering if the technique used for tying flies can be applied to jig tying?

Any suggestions or info much appreciated ;)

Thx's Ledhed, unfortunately fly fishing isn't really popular in my area. mainly over in the N.E part of the state, a good half a days drive! I've been keeping an eye open for BassPro in our area, they sometimes offer fly tying classes, a bit closer. ;) That's why I picked up the books, a lot cheaper then gas !!

Mike

Try to find a book by Ken Oberect (spelling???) titled Anglers guide to jigs and jigging. He has a few chapters on tying jigs.

FAOL is a great course by the late Al Campbell. Any fly you can tie you can tie on a jig head. If it don't look good because of the collar cut the collar off it or buy jigs without.

I found a book called The Art of Fly Tying by John Van Vliet, which I was told was a really good for learning fly tying too. I'll see if I can find this other book you mentioned. I think I heard other people make reference to that book before, the title sounds fimilar.

now I know why that title, "Anglers guide to jigs and jigging", sounded so familiar ..... I ordered that book from Amazon, found it used in excellent condition .... DUH!!! God now I know I'm getting old.

thx's
