mickalo
I have been thinking about trying my hand at some jig tying, IE: Marabou & Bucktail jigs. I like to use a method called "Float & Fly" on some of the lakes here and had some pretty good success with it last year. Now I'm thinking about making some of my own jigs. I picked up a couple of books a while ago for fly tying as I may also give that a try some time down the road. But was wondering if the technique used for tying flies can be applied to jig tying? Any suggestions or info much appreciated Mike
LedHed
“was wondering if the technique used for tying flies can be applied to jig tying?” - absolutely. Visit your local fly shop – lot of them offer fly tying class. Usually fly fishing clubs will offer the classes also. Learn to tie a wooly bugger. mickalo
Thx's Ledhed, unfortunately fly fishing isn't really popular in my area. mainly over in the N.E part of the state, a good half a days drive! I've been keeping an eye open for BassPro in our area, they sometimes offer fly tying classes, a bit closer. That's why I picked up the books, a lot cheaper then gas !! Mike absolutely. Fatman
Try to find a book by Ken Oberect (spelling???) titled Anglers guide to jigs and jigging. He has a few chapters on tying jigs. FAOL is a great course by the late Al Campbell. Any fly you can tie you can tie on a jig head. If it don't look good because of the collar cut the collar off it or buy jigs without. mickalo
I found a book called The Art of Fly Tying by John Van Vliet, which I was told was a really good for learning fly tying too. I'll see if I can find this other book you mentioned. I think I heard other people make reference to that book before, the title sounds fimilar. now I know why that title, "Anglers guide to jigs and jigging", sounded so familiar ..... I ordered that book from Amazon, found it used in excellent condition .... DUH!!! God now I know I'm getting old. thx's Mike
