woodenfeather
I made a crude wooden mold and melted some old weights in a tin can and was able to make all of one before the wife shut down my stovetop operation. I'm not sure of the best way to paint lead. I roughed up the surface and epoxied, painted with spraypaint, and epoxy topcoat. I think it turned out pretty cool. Celticav
Nice job. I like to use a self-etching primer on lead, then acrylic or laquer spray with epoxy topcoat. You should be able to get quite a few of those outta that wooden mold before it is worn out, great work on the mold and the pour, awesome paint job, JIM
Big Splash
Very nice! If you pour a few at a time be sure to let the mold cool a bit in between. Helps keep the wood from cracking (larger castings are harder on the wooden mold).
woodenfeather
Thanks guys for the compliments and the tips! Celticav, where might I find this etching primer you mentioned. I'll check at the hardware store today but let me know just in case I can't find it or if there is a particular kind you recommend...Dan
Celticav
I was using just a flat white to prime with but the self etching stuff works 100% better, I get mine from a auto paint store in an aerosol can, JIM
