Bogbaits
I just found a neat way to weight your swimbait or any plastic bait for that matter, including worms, frogs ,swimbaits,on and on,I use some 22 cal lead pellets for pellet guns,The ones with the pointed end works best but the rounded ends will work also,Just push the lead pellet in the spot you want to insert the weight and use a thin nail and push in into the bait,if you need more than one you just follow the same hole with the second, you can also get these in diff sizes for diff weights, fast ,easy and very effective,The plastic actually closes up behind the inserted lead so they dont come out, tried several already with no problems
Richard Prager
That is pretty neat! Does this have to be done right after you take the bait out of the mold (while it's warm) in order for the hole to close up?
bhorlings
I saw the Tru-Tungsten weighted baits that Iaconelli was hyping. Same idea but a lot cheaper. Great thinking! Let us know how they work!
Bogbaits
No,the baits do not have to be fresh out of the molds,I did about 20 swimbaits that were 2 months poured and the y work great, the desighn of the pellet has a point and then a ridge and a flair, that is what hold them in,They look as if they were made for this application,The nest part is they make them in all sizes and if you buy larger quanities there actually pretty cheap, you can insert them any where the bait needs weight at any time, even on the water. rixon529
I thought I read in other posts that lead would react with plastic and get scuzzy or fuzzy? Or does this apply only to hot plastic poured over leaded hooks? Anyone? Thanks. Rick
Bogbaits
I have not heard of that but have had no problem with these weights
Sonny.Barile
Just a note..........(from a newbie) Storm lures are poured soft plastic and they contain lead weights. I have had left over bags that I stored for the winter then used in the spring. They dont seem to degrade where the weight is. They do however become brittle at the flexible tail. That I think is due to the plastic itself................... I hope this is helpfull.............. Sonny
