The Dutchman
What do you use and how do you tie in the neck of rabbit hair jigs?
stankdog
Try crosscut rabbit strips , even better is Finnish Raccoon for big bushy jigs. The technique is called palmering, tie in the fur and wrap ( be sure to fold fur back between each wrap) towards jig head>

The Dutchman
psv, That video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. You just made my day! Some of the other videos on youtube are great for fly tying and jig tying. Again, thanks. Joe

The Dutchman
I don't as of yet. I don't have any. However, that being said, I just ordered some and should be here this week.
ageowa
There are 2 types of rabbit strips: Crosscut & straight-cut (AKA "zonker strips"). Zonkers come in 2 sizes: Standard & magnum. Magnums are wider. It's more economical to buy fur scraps & cut them yourself. Just turn it skin-side up, clamp it in something or have someone hold it tight, then slice using something very sharp. I use an Xacto knife. (Note: scissors do NOT work well for this.) Hilltop sells nice bags of fur scraps for $4.19/bag. I've bought 3 of them so far! The only disadvantage is that the colors vary. Buying scraps is like a box of chocolates -- ya never know what you're going to get. Here's a link: RABBIT HIDE PIECES VARIETY PACK FLY TYING FISHING FLIES - eBay (item 390026780491 end time Feb-01-09 18:09:13 PST) This is currently my favorite crappie jig, and it's made with a chartreuse zonker + white marabou. TrophyFishR
Thanks for the tips and video. I successfully tied my first bunny jig last night. It looks surprisingly good and the second looked professional. This was not as hard as I thought, thanks to ya'lls insight.
