Fatman
Does anyone know what gauge wire Mepps uses on their spinners??? I use .026 and it still doesn't seem as stiff as the Mepss spinners. Mine work fine but I have bent a few wires on larger fish. Fatman
Spike-A-Pike
Fatman. Mepps doesn't publish that info, but according to the Canadian Guide to Lure Making,:-:-: Lure Making :-:-: The Official LureMaking.com Website | Tackle Components | Lure Components | Lure Making Information | Lure Making Supplies It looks like it is more based on blade size than anything else. You may want to go light on the wire if you are bending your spinners with pliers and vise-grips, just hand tools, and a bit heavier if your using a spinner bender. 0.024” Spinners with blade sizes 0 to 4 0.028” Spinners with blade sizes 3 to 6 0.030” Spinners with blade sizes 3 to 6 0.035” Spinners with blade sizes 5 to 8 0.051” Musky Spinners 0.062” Musky Spinners

robbor
you may want to look at panther martin spinners, they are much better imo
HookUp
I use both and find both catch fish. Try a Mepps design w/ a Dakota blade ;-)
Spike-A-Pike
I haven't bought either type in over 35 years. Try a SAP Musky Spinner... oops; forgot I don't sell them to the public, I'm not a tackle company.
