bhorlings Posted March 15, 2008 Report Share Posted March 15, 2008 How is everyone separating the solvent from the pigment of the Testors paint? I am trying to finish my second split grip rod and the portion I used color on is tacky and sticky still after 30 hours but the portion I did not use the pigment on set up just fine. I think it would be fine if I just put another coat on it without pigment but I not sure. Should I try that or just strip it down? What's the best way to strip it down if that is the answer? thedude Posted March 15, 2008 Report Share Posted March 15, 2008 i try to buy the testors paints that have already settled and then carefully get them home and drain the solvent off. i don't any other way of seperating them other that just letting it sit still for a while. Mud Hole is also selling a product called "diamondite" in a kit specifically for marblizing.. never tried it but there wouldn't be any solvent issues i don't think. Some people use TAP die also which is solvent free. a plastic knife should do the trick to scrape off the old finish. i'll be doing the same thing this weekend... a rod i did awhile has about 5 guides that never dried..so i get to scrape those off and re-wrap them too. Just wipe it down with a clean cotton cloth and denatured alcohol to make sure you remove all the dust/lint particles. Let the alcohol dry off and re-apply another coat. I suggest, as noted, that you use syringes for proper measuring. Dude, Diamondite is just another thread finish. It's not anything specifically made for marbleing. You can marble with threadmaster, flex coat, LS Supreme ect... with equal results. I think it just did not setup fully because of the solvent in the Testors paint. I was confused on pouring the solvent off. I thought you guys where doing it on the aluminum foil and I was wondering how the heck am I going to do that. I'll be finishing up the rod this afternoon. Thanks.
