Cuttem Jack
I just thought I'd post a report of my week. Last saturday while working I was involved in an auto accident. I slid on some ice and lost control of my car and hit a tree head on. I had to be extricated from the car by the fire department and then off to the hospital I went. Long story short, I had two surguries on both feet and have a broken arm. No weight bearing at all on my feet for the next three months. I got a rod and 4 screws in my right foot and wires in my left toes and three screws in my left foot. I won't be doing any fishing this summer and probably no hunting this year either. My family could use some prayers for having to help me with everything.

hazmail
Glad to hear you are O.K Jack, but sound like you are going to have a boring 3 months, not being able to make any lures etc. Hope that ice is melted before we get there, it will be like dodgem cars without the ice , us being all R/H drivers. Get well soon . pete

Spike-A-Pike
Jack, That isn’t the best way to test the limits of your medical insurance; take is from someone who knows. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. I hope that there aren’t any additional surgeries planned. My possible future son-in-law messed up his elbow last fall and is still recovering, he doesn’t have medical insurance and won’t sue a “friend” and is looking at about $30,000.00 in debt – ouch! I have spent more than my fair share of time in the hospital over the last 20 years, and it’s tough on both the patient and family members. You need to plan ahead in as many ways as possible, future fishing trip, hunting, etc., see if you can still do any of your hobbies, tackle making, reloading shells, etc., is there anything you’d like to learn more about or something that you’re an expert in that you’d like to write a tutorial or publish a paper on. The thing you need to learn to do is press the limits of your abilities and not focus on temporary disabilities. The first few weeks are the most difficult for all concerned; but you will all learn what level of assistance is needed. Hopefully, they have you on a pain management profile that is working for you, and the pain and swelling will go away. If you have any friends with a pontoon boat, you may be able to get a little fishing in late summer/early fall. Have friends drop in and help you sort your tackle box, clean ‘n lube your reels, polish the boat… the fun is unlimited! You should has about 750 posts during the course of your recovery - lol. Get well soon, you and family are added to our prayers and tell Mrs. Cutt'em Jack that you playing around on TU is a good sign of your recovery... Cuttem Jack
UPDATE: yesterday I went to see the doctors. They removed my splint off of my left foot and put it in a cast. The doctor took x-rays of both feet and said they're looking good. I have an appointment on the 3rd of April to get the stitches and staples out of both feet and then they're going to put pressure bandages on to try and remove all the swelling. My feet are killing me today from all the riding around and sitting in my wheelchair waiting to see the doctor. Today, all I did was lay around and sleep. Hopefully tomorrow will be much better! Hope your recovery is speedy, and you continue to get good news from the doctor-- I'm sure you will. I does sure suck to be stuck just putting around, when you want to be up and attem. Try to have some patience now, 'cause you'll be back up in no time.
