sealer for plaster molds ?

Recommended Posts

I poured about 50 last night on the resin coated molds with no problems, again time will tell. Fishin, were your molds completely dry? I asking about the plaster. If it's not completely dry when your coat it with ModPog or just about anything the problem you described appears. One of the molds I got in the swap, I think BigSplash made it, has one of the best finishes I've ever seen. Man, that stuff is smooth as glass. What was it ans where do you get it?

Basskat, if im not mistaken it is the resin that is poured on bar tops. He posted it earlier. Most places like Menards, home depo, etc should have it.

How did the resin do as far as detail loss? I lost some with the epoxy, when brushed on. ( I have to admit I didnt thin it as much as others do)

Basskat, yes the mold was dry. it's about a month old and I baked it for over a day before I coat it with the fiberglas resin. Although it was put over some other stuff I tried to seal it with first, so that may have been the problem. I still plan on trying some clear liquid plastic casting resin that I found on the net. It's kinds spendy so I want to make sure I think it will work first.

Don't know where this 2003 string came from but will throw in MHO. Elmer's Glue All is the best coating for plaster molds period...Easy to apply....brush on or flood with a 50/50 water mix....cheap....hardly any loss of detail...dries quickly and lasts forever...no release agent needed...glossy finish....etc, etc. Try it, you'll like it.
