dabskie
It's not in the cookbook,,,I'm trying to match GY's Red w/red & black flake,,,,I'm getting close,,but need to be darker,,,GY's is the small one,,right now I'm at, 4oz plastic 55 drops lc strawberry 5 drops lc bright red 2 drops black There is 1/8 cup powdered salt added,,,been adding 5 drops of strawberry at a time to darken it,,but the last 10 drops didn't seem to do anything,,and I'm already up to 55 drops,,,the bright red and black were put in at the beginning to try to get a darker red,,not sure if I even needed them in there,,,,would adding more black,,maybe purple or black grape help or is there another way to go about this without so much strawberry. I'm open for suggestions,,,,,Thanks

nova
It's interesting that you say that even when you add more strawberry it doesn't get any darker. What is happening is that once you reach the total depth of the color that is in the bottle it simply will not get any darker. To add more of that color is simply a waste. You can add black to it but you have to careful with that as you can quickly wind up with a reddish grey. If after that you still need to get it darker you should stay within the red spectrum. You can try more red or even a very little black grape to darken it some more. Are the baits pictured yours or the color you are trying to get to? www.novalures.com
dabskie
The larger one 4-1/4 in mine and the smaller is GY's,,3 inch,,,I'm trying to match the color of the small one,I have 1/4 cup of powered salt not 1/8 like stated,,Thanks nova
SWO
Lurecraft now has a color powder called "Lipstick". I used that and some LC bright red to get a realistic looking blood red color. It may help you. The only problem I've had with it it that it is an extremely fine powder and it gets all over EVERYTHING, so you need to be careful with it. nova
From what I'm seeing in the pic; you are very very close. I'm not sure the fish will be able to tell much of a differance; but the fisherman might.lol www.novalures.com
dabskie
Yeah I almost have it nova,,,the reason I'm trying to get even closer is,,,the red senko has been my bread and butter ,,,my confindence lure,,,the one I use 90 % of the time,,,for the last 5 years,,,and I've gone through more than I can count,,,thats why I got started in this,,,Tired of paying mr. yamamoto big bucks,,,I almost have it,,but not quite,,I'll get it,,,,won't have any rest in my butt till I do,,lol,,,,,,I mailed some to a buddy of mine to try in his bass pond,,,want to see if close enough is good enough. GY's is a little darker red,,,,have to see if someone carries a darker red than lc's,,,,The mold is Del's 4-1/4 slim stik,,totally happy with it,,,"Top Shelf" quality,,

dabskie
Ok,,thanks JD,,,might work,,,,cause I think Nova is right,,,I went as far as I can go with the Strawberry,,going to add some more anyway just to make sure, and rule that out,,won't hurt to try. Thanks Guys
alsworms
Another thing you might try is MF red. Their red is much more of a blood/crimson type red. Just my
Fish_N_Fool
Before you do anything else I would try this formula as you have all the colors needed already. 4oz plastic 35 drops lc strawberry 5 drops lc bright red 2 1/2 drops lc black 1/8 cup powdered salt 10 dash's .035 red glitter 5 dash's .035 black, 1 dash .035 gold I think that color had some gold flake in it and I think that will get you really close. If it still is to lite go to 2 3/4 drops of black. If it is to dark go to 2 1/4 drops. You may have to make a little bigger batch to get the quanities right. Let me know if you try it and what you get.
dabskie
Going to get some different reds to try,,,but going to try what you said Jim,,I held GY's up to the light with a magnifing glass,,,don't really see any gold in it,,but it does appear to have more black flake in it than I have. Also the less salt might make a difference, and a little more black,,,or do you think black grape or purple would be better like nova said keeping it in the red spectrum,,going to try what you said Jim,,I might even make a batch and leave the salt out,,to see what I get,,,,,,,Leaving today to go visit my grandaughter for a couple of days forEaster so won't be able to try till I get back. Thanks Guys,,really appreciate you help.
One Sock
go with the MF red, I can match the color almost eactly, Like someone else mentioned, once you reach the depth of a color it won't get any darker, if insistent on using the LC strawberry, than maybe add a drop or two of the MF trans orange
