Florida Don
Well........ I bought a mini lathe yesterday - so I thought I'd try it out today. Never used one before. The purpose is to make masters for molds I am making. Here is what I messed with and the poured worm results. The worms are a little shorter than the master, because I had to clean out the fill hole in the mold and went too deep. Hey, that is what prototyping is all about. The master is 2 7/8" long - approx 1/2" diameter in the middle and 1/4" diameter on the ends. It was all done just goofing around - nothing particular in mind. Just learning what each chisel did. I had a lot of fun doing this.
outdooradvantage
Those look pretty cool to me, what do you call them?
Florida Don
Thanks. No name as I was just goofing around. Perhaps I should call them Goofy Little Worms - yep, that should work.
nova
Those are really different; I like them. They look like those big white worms they eat in Austrialia. www.novalures.com

TightLine
Is that master from wood? One of my other hobbies is turning (big stuff) and I tried making a master from wood but it wasn't hard enough for the kind of detail I was after. My next try will be with corian or plastic. Florida Don
Yes, the master is from wood - just birch dowel. I am trying some oak dowel but it appears to be too hard. This is all a learning experience.
nova
I always use clear pine. It's much easier to work with and once you seal it properly it's plenty hard enough to use as a master. www.novalures.com
