respirator

Depending on where you are pouring you may be able to set up a "hood". I would recommend a hood set up at all possible. Properly designed it will end up easier, more comfortable and cheaper in the long run. The respirators are great but if used properly you need to change out the cannisters on a regular basis dependent upon usuage. Check out North Safety or similar place at their respirators. You can contact them for specific requirements. Some people also encounter difficulties with respirators. Proper fit testing is also necessary.

You should build a hood, and wear a respirator. You can use any companies respirator as long as they have a organic acids and vapor cartridges. If they don't you have to find a company that does. I know 3M, SAS Respirators, and a few others due. You may have to special order them but they are cheap like $12. a pair. I order them by the case it is the cheapest. You only get 6 to a case so its not god awful expensive. Just make sure its does both organic acids and vapors. The regular autobody respirators do only vapors. I had many places try to Bullsh$T me that they are both but after a few phone calls I got the truth. I will also attach pictures of my hood. It was easy to make and install. I use a full face respirator like this one. Grainger Industrial Supply: Respirator, Full Face 3PB94

I have one that just covers the mouth but it doesn't protect your eyes. After a full day of pouring my eyes were burning and they were itchy the next morning. For some reason I didn't think that was right. Now I can pour all day long and it doesn't effect me at all. I also have a hood vent but when your staring at the pouring stream going into the mold that doesn't really cover your face area. Maybe it is over safe but I don't think there is such a thing. I recommend a full face especially if you have allergies. You would still have to buy cartridges for these too. I recommend you cover dust, particulates and vapors. Hope this helps.
