mickalo
I've been going through some of my old jigs and would like to repaint them. What's the best method to remove old paint and prep the jig to be repainted with new powder paints. thx's Mike
pirkfan
I'd have to question whether that's really worth the trouble. Since I make all my own jig heads, I'd just melt the lead off the hook and start over (outside where there's not a fume problem from the old paint). Old jigs have old hooks, and unless they're in superb condition (no rust or pitting), I'd use a new hook too. The only jig hooks I try to salvage are stainless mustads
yankee jigger
Honestly, for the price of a jighead, its not worth the time and hassle. Trust me on this one......... If you insist, you might be able to burn the paint off?????
reeves
Mike, I use MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) which is one of the stronger solvents for this. All my stuff is powder painted and cured, so it takes alot to get it off, but this stuff does a pretty good job. Just let soak for about a half hour and it will begin to release. Sometimes I can just peel it off and other times I have to scrub it to get it all off. Have fun!
mickalo
think I'll take yankee jigger advise ... sounds like a better idea instead of trying mess with a bunch of old jig. thx's Mike
