JSC
Speaking of size of fish ... just being curious .. what is the weight of the one I am landing in my avatar (or what ever you call it) ??? Not my largest just second to it. Riverjigin on the amount of softner you may have to "Play" with it a little as it is hard to tell what you have left from not getting mixed .. maybe start with a spoonfull in 8oz. Spike-A-Pike
Me personally, I can figure out how long they are in inches with a ruler, but any weight is just a guess. If Matt said it's a 10-12, I'd say he's as accurate as all the "Tournament Winners" I've listened to in bars from as far north as Wisconsin, as far south as Texas, from California to Florida... now can somebody pass the pretzels. JDBaits
Nice fish but 12lbs is a stretch, my buddy caught this guy last labor day, We had no scale on us so we messured him up and use this formula to gestimate his weight (length x length x girth
Vodkaman
If I caught a monster and really wanted to know the weight, I would improvise a scale. Take the butt half of a rod, hang the fish one end, hang a roughly equivalent weight the other end (could be your fishing bag etc). Measure the distance from the fish to the balance point or mark the rod. Take the weight home with you. Repeat the process at home, replace the fish with a plastic bag or container. Fill with water until the same balance is reached and weigh the container and water. This method will get you within 2 - 3ozs with only a little more effort than using regular scales. Unfortunately, I have never caught a fish anywhere near heavy enough to be worth the effort.
