TNBasser
I have completed carving several wood prototypes from Basswood which I intend to use for producing RTV molds. What is the best product to use (varnish, shellac, etc) to seal these prototypes so there are no problems in making the mold?
nova
I seal mine with tremclad spray can paint with fine steelwool rubbing in between coats.(usually 3 coats) Comes out nice and glassy. Let the paint cure for a couple of days before you mold it. www.novalures.com
bassn1
I use regular sanding sealer from Home Depot. Dip 2 or3 times and sand with 220 between coats and let dry overnight.
gofish, ill
would the same sealer apply for making pop molds?
bassn1
would the same sealer apply for making pop molds? Home Depot sanding sealer wont work for a pop mold....cant take the heat. I tried to coat a prototype for dippin' and it just bubbled off in a matter of seconds. Use elmers glue mixed 50/50 with water for a cheap sealer. Tman2
Some guys use a thinned down Devcon sealer and put it in the oven between coats. Search POP sealer and you should come up with some options.
Tman2
Back on track, Palmetto Balsa is selling something for sealing wood baits, I believe.
