Smalljaws99
Hi folks. I am hoping to make some very light 1/16 - 1/8 ounce finesse jigs for small bass and crappies. I need to find a source, though, where I can buy some ultra fine / thin silcone (or rubber) skirt material. SIf anyone can direct me to a site where I can buy some I sure would appreciate the help. Thanks a bunch!
Spike-A-Pike
Without a doubt, go to Skirts Unlimited.com. You will find a source for ultra fine all the way to super wide silicone and rubber skirt material. Some of the samples they sent are finer than skirts I've seen in any store. Munkin
Fishingskirts.com sells what they call frogs hair which is as fine as silicone skirts can be made. There is no other source I could recommend more for silicone but if you are looking for round rubber livingrubber.com is the place to go. robalo01
Do you know how many strands of each tab has (the frog's hair skirting material) How many tabs do you think it would take to make an average spinnerbait? I usually use two tabs of the common twenty-strand stuff.
Spike-A-Pike
You can ask Charles at Skirts Unlimited.com (aka: Fishingskirts.com) what is standard... The thing your going to find out once you talk with Charles is he wants you to a happy customer and he is going to work with you to find out exactly what is going to fill your needs. Something I found out from Charles was that the wider, thicker strands of silicon add more movement to the lure and provides a larger profile. Trust me, talk to Charles and get what you need for your lures without a costly mistake.

I usually use two tabs of the common twenty-strand stuff. If i counted right its 22 just like the full size strips. The strips are 1/2 the size though. I made a little 1/4oz jig with 3 strips the other day and it turned out perfect. The froghair is awsome. I wish he had more colors in it.
