MGrant
Hey guys I got a question on gluing soft plastics down to lexan. I did some thread searching, but did not find much. I have noticed that some threads say that super glue is used but, I have tried that, along with hot glue. I have not however tried 100% silicon for lexan. I am trying to glue down a zoom bait that has a very shiny commercial finish. When I tried the above glues the bait just released, no stick. If I try pouring the POP, it gets under the bait. Man thats frustrating. Is there something that I am missing like scuffing the bait? Thanks for any help.
nova
Zoom baits are all injected. This means that there are no real flat sides. That's why you are getting pop running under the bait. Those types of baits should be done in a 2 sided mold and that requires no gluing. www.novalures.com
longhorn
I stick the baits down with double-sided permanent Scotch tape...in a yellow and black package at walmart or anywhere. I lay strips down side to side over the entire surface where the baits will be....then can place the baits anywhere. Wash the baits with detergent to remove any oils and dry them well before sticking them down. They don't have to have a flat side for this to work. Make sure the masters are stuck down all the way to the end and don't shake too hard when releasing bubbles. Once in a while and end or two will float up in the POP but with experience they'll come out right every time. I recently made a POP mold for the new crooked and very expensive finesse worms...which are completely round and it came out perfect. Good Luck. MGrant
I make sure that I wash the baits in detergent before I use them in molds, but that is a good thing to note for anyone else reading. The question is not so much just on that particular bait. I was just working on a small inexpensive POP vacuum chamber to remove air, and I wanted to make sure that if I make a 1 piece mold that I could secure the masters down. I will give the double sided tape a try. Thanks longhorn.
King Bait Co.
Try making a POP mold with them on top first. Then after you a good mold of the bait you like seal it. Then pour some baits pick the ones you like out of a batch and use as your masters. Then you would have a flat side to glue or tape down you and could make a few more molds with the other masters. It may take a little longer but you would be able to use diffrent glues and tapes at the same time to see witch one works best.
