challenger Posted April 25, 2008 Report Share Posted April 25, 2008 Iam having a problem with some of my baits breaking off at the bend of the hook. after a few cast all I REEL IN IS A STUB OF A WORM WERE THE HOOK IS SET. I have tried diferent salt and sotner mixures and still have the same pproblem. I have tried calhoun plastic and lc 502 ,and 536. and it is happing to all of my baits. help please what am I doing wrong with my plastic. Bogbaits Posted April 25, 2008 Report Share Posted April 25, 2008 Just a few things to think about,make sure your plastic is mixed very well,I had this happen to me and it was a combination of not mixing my plastic well enough and not getting it hot enough,It may be one of these or both. MONKEYqpHUNTER Posted April 25, 2008 Report Share Posted April 25, 2008 i would lean more towards the plastic not being mixed enough try one of the bits the dry wall guys use to mix there mud this is what i use they come in differnt sizes and if you are useing the one gallon jug buy a real long extenion like you would put a socket on this mixs the jugs real well o yea make sure your drill is on low speed or you will have a mess. King Bait Co. Posted April 25, 2008 Report Share Posted April 25, 2008 I was having the same problem. I use Calhoun 12107 plastic. I quit using softner in my worm's and they quit tearing. They felt oily after I poured them maybe yours do to. It also can be from not mixing well enough too. I just put a little softner in my stick baits. challenger Posted April 25, 2008 Author Report Share Posted April 25, 2008 thanks for your replies I will try mixing a lot more I had a five gallon bucket and mixed the plastic with the double blade dry wall mixer from home depot and then poured it into a one gallon jug for my use. maybe I did not mix it well enough . I have quit using softner and less salt. so we will se if mixing better helps I will also check my heat on my presto pot for the right temp. thanks . The 5 gallon bucket we mix with a paint mixer for atleast 5 minutes or so. You will be able to feel if there is still hardner in the bottom. Shake the crap out of the 1 gallon jugs. We usually flip the bottle over to see if there is settling. Are your worms setting up or are they still stickey hours after they are poured? Usually a good sign plastic is not mixed enough. I try and keep the 5gal. consistant to each other... I shake the colors enough 4oz... To a gallon...? I keep it on the bottom of the bucket and med fast & never have a air bubble problem or any hardner left on the bottom... Just mix before each batch of plastic and quick & easy... I would not relish the thought of having to shake up a gallon container, a vertually impossible task as the container is full! The high volume pourers are playing with much larger consignments. If this problem was mine, I would make a slow turning mount (45 degrees), could be capable of turning two or three containers at a time. These could be run on a timer in preparation for a pouring session, ball bearings or something suitable to promote the mixing. Glad to know I'm not the only one that shakes his 5 gal. jug. It is a really good way to work out, though. And must agree that between the shakin' and that dance thing, would make a great video. One Sock Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 I'm with 152 on this one MF does not seperate, doesn't smell nearly as bad as some of the others, and makes a great looking bait. I can't imagine having drills and stuff all set up to mix my plastic. The only mixing i'm doing is when it comes out of the microwave, and that's just to get the salt stirred up.
