Snax
Not sure what the results would be but it popped into my head the other day and I wondered if anyone had tried to mold a lure entirely from epoxy? I figure that we use it to protect the wood underneath so what if we just made the whole darn thing from it? lol Any thoughts guys?
nova
Seems to me that it may be heavier than you might like. You may have to form it layer by layer because I think as the epoxy dries it may crack. Not 100% sure about the above statements; just my first thoughts. www.novalures.com
Vodkaman
The density of epoxy is around 1.2 so some kind of lightening process would be required, maybe silicone micro spheres.

I would say that Urethane Resin with micro balloons for buoyancy would be the way to go. You could also use 16 lb density foam. These would require silicone molds. KcDano
There was a company in Missouri that made a bait in the bass oreno style that was constructed from lucite. The halves were cast or machined(can't recall if they were cast or milled from solid stock) and painted on the inside and then glued together although the final product was solid the paint was never subject to the rigors of fish and therefore, virtually indestructable. Now this design could be eloborated upon by casting or machining the baits with void to achieve the proper bouyancy for a floating plug. RainBow Wiggler is the name of the bait. diemai
Husky is absolutely right about Urethane Resin , silicone molds and microballs for buoancy . Some skilled tinkerers on the German site KoederDesign.de - alles f
kelly
Thats cool I wish cds held up in the cold better. Thank you that gets thinking. Wonder how strong it would be left on the wood?
Vodkaman
I'm sure Pete will present a technique to do the same with 1/16" lexan, dip in hot fat and form. Novel idea for the press, got me thinking, thanks.

Husky
diemaiWhat a very cool site - thnx. Real eye opener - wish it was posted in English also. Use Google translator. Just Copy and paste into it, then paste results into WORD and print. Then you can read it in English, and maybe learn a little German while you're at it! smirkplug
They did make a popper in Hawaii called a Pili popper that you had to work pretty fast to keep it from sinking but i've caught stripers , dorado, tuna, calico bass etc. They were kind of expensive and chipped easily but you could one as a guide. mjmmusser
That post about the cd's has my wheels turning, hmmmm..maybe get rid of my old scratched cd's. I wonder how well a heat gun will work if you put the cd in the press first. This has got me pondering.
Snax
Hmmm....Now that I think about it could you mold a bait from the propionate? I'm guessing that the answer is no due the the evaporation factor.
MR KNOW IT ALL KIND OF
I made some Shakey Head Worm hooks out of left over epoxy putty!! They look like crap but they work!

Not to hijack this thread, but there is a tutorial on compound bending Lexan that might work for bending those old CDs after they're cut and shaped. hazmail, the author of the tutorial has been fine tuning the tool he created to bend the lexan for some time. I think he was using a curling iron initially.
LedHed
Isn’t the Pili popper (great lure BTW) made out of acrylic?

Was just thinking that you would be able to watch it alot better by using a heat gun vs submerged in hot oil.
