squigster
Anyone tried this fryer? Walmart.com : Euro Pro Stainless Steel Deep Fryer : Appliances I bought one and tried to heat plastic in it last night at 325 deg F and it fried my plastic. It left black chunks all through it. I stirred the whole time and it still burnt it. It has temp control thats why I tried it. Do you guys heat it in the micro first then pour it in the deep fryer? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
Angler310
Squigster, are the elements exposed on the bottom of the fryer? If they are you will need to find a way to cover them, I thought about using one something like that fryer and found that the element gets quite a bit hotter allowing the plastic to burn before the batch get to temp. angler310
squigster
They are not exposed but they are raised. I am guessing that they get real hot real fast. I dont know what to do to try and cover them though without plastic getting underneath whatever I would put over them. Any ideas? I though about nuking the plastic first then putting it in there but if the elements get that hot maybe it would still burn. I may try it one more time. I put a digital temp probe in there and it only registered 255 when it was burning. Any more thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
MONKEYqpHUNTER
just wondering why are you useing a fryer to heat your plastic ?
squigster
I was looking for a better means to heat about a half a gallon of plastic at one time for tube dipping. I have a presto pot setup with the mixer and ball valve but you have to keep stopping it to dip tubes and it requires about a gallon at a time to keep a descent level of plastic for dipping 4" to 6" tubes. The fryer holds about 1/2 gallon perfectly if it would not burn it. I need something to maintain the heat better than a hot plate and an aluminum cylinder, thats why I tried it. I just wanted a smaller version of the presto pot and I thought it would work.
redg8r
Some here have mentioned using a fry daddy/pappy/baby by modifying the thermostat from underneath. Never tried it myself, but I think those hold half the amount a presto pot holds. also, maybe the smaller lee plastic pots? Thanks for the report though, hopefully it saves someone some future trouble.
squigster
I was wandering if you could take the thermostat from a presto pot and fit it on a frydaddy. Dont know if the thermostat would fir or not. It may be two different type of connections.
Richard Prager
Have you tried Bojon's method for horizontal tube dipping. I bought the dvd and it seems pretty easy to do and you don't need to heat up so much plastic. Just a thought.
redg8r
Na, they're 2 different connectors. The presto has the thermostat on the cord & the frydaddy thermostat/rheostat is built into the bottom. Yeah if you haven't tried Bojon's method, give that a try too.
squigster
I dont have the DVD but I tried it for a while. There is nothing wrong with it at all and it works great but you cant dip multiple baits at one time. My brother machined me 5 tube dippers similiar to what lurecraft sells with 7 rods on each dipper and they work great in the presto pot but I am using a gallon at a time to get what I want and after a little while the level drops so low that either I pour the plastic out through the ball valve or dip smaller tubes. Yes, the level will drop in any pot but if I only feel like making 35 tubes I dont want to use a whole gallon. The problem with the presto pot is its size. I dont want to make a million but I dont want to be there all day making one at a time. If they would make a smaller version it would be perfect.
