Mountain Man 26
Just looking for some feed back from both sides. Does the bait with the hook slot catch fish as well CONSISTENTLY as the hollow body. I know there are certain situations when one bait will out perform the other. I just want to know what is working and what is not. I saw Jason Quinn on a show this morning and he had some of the baits with a hook slot, but he however seemed to indicate that the hollow baits were better. I remember some early posts by Longhorn and others on field tests they had done. I was just wondering now that the craze has died down a little what people still think about both baits. King Bait Co.
I have used both this year and I have caught fish with both. I have used Reaction Strike Fathead JR. they are hollow and Big Bite Baits with the slot. The one with the slot seemed to get bit longer I think because they look realler then the hollow one's. The hollow ones were taken quicker but I think the hollow have a little more action. The one's I have with the slot have a little fin on top of them so you can bury the hook a little higher so when it got bit the bass hooked its self. With the slot ones I fell you have a more sure set with them because when bit the hook should slide up and out of the plastic and into the fish when they try turn and run. Because you have a little more room in their and you can have a near perfect weedless rig. The hollow I had to set it myself on the two times they got bit but they were also swolled. It could have been the fishing conditoins. Everybody will have a different opinon on them. I was given two new packs of Bass Magic's the other day because he can't catch fish with them. You may also want to use a slow reel to get the action out of them. I got a Phluger Criterion 5:1:1 just for swimbaits and I started catching more with it The slower the better action the faster they just glide though the water with hardly any to no tail movement hollow or sloted. I think the sloted do have a little better hook set than the hollow.
