bassn1
i made a few foam Bagley B2's this winter and thought I would modify them to run a bit deeper. I added a longer, wider lip and thought that would do it. WRONG!! I moved the line tie back towards the bait from the original placement. When I tried them out for the first time this weekend, they only dived a foot and came thru the water at a 90 degree angle. ( like flying a kite under water) . How can I save them? they're painted and cleared. Should i just try and reshape the lip or put them up on the shelf and start over.
BobP
Assuming they have enough ballast (have you compared the weight of yours to the originals?), I'd try shortening the lips so the line tie is just short of half the distance from the nose of the bait to the tip of the lip. bassn1
Thanks Bob, I'll give that a try. do I need to narrow the lip as well or won't that make much of a difference.
mark poulson
I've found that narrowing the lip will make a lure run shallower, since there's not as much surface catching the water and forcing it down. For me it also makes for less side to side wiggle (I think that's the term, as opposed to wobble, where the lure body rolls from side to side). Probably Bob is right, and shortening the lip in small increments until you get a decent action is the way to go. But you may not be able to save it. I've ruined a few store bought lures messing with the bills. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
