boomah21
Hey I am just getting started with soft plastics and tried my hand a frog mold. My issue is when pouring this bait I always had a hollow frog with a head that would never hold a hook... Is my issue that I am not getting the plastic hot enough? Maybe the mold should be heated (using a 2 part pop mold)? Any suggestions would be great
Basseducer
boomah21, Your problem may be that you are not topping off. When you fill your mold does the plastic suck down into the pour hole? If so you need to fill the hole again to keep it from sucking air and causing the hollow head. You have to keep topping off until the plastic stops going in. Hope this helps. MONKEYqpHUNTER
try a warm mold with hoter plastic. are you pouring a 6 inch bull frog?
King Bait Co.
Try shaking the mold as you pour it to get the air out. Then pour it a little slower and hotter so the air can come out the top as you pour. Try and leave a little open gap at the hole when you pour the plastic in at. Its a little hard to explaine. Lets say for an example 1" hole. 1/2" plastic of hole has plastic going in other 1/2" of hole has air comming out. Sorry if this confusing. boomah21
Great pointers! No the mold is actually just a copy of a 4" buzz frog for top water. I am also using remelts will this be part of my issue?
King Bait Co.
Does some of your remalts have salt in them. That might make it sink and harder to get going. I am not for sure. The Strike King Rage'en Tail buzz frogs are heavy but the legs are thicker and made to get it up on top of the water. The others I have used floated on the top and the legs were thinner then the Strike Kings.
Bountiful Waters
If you are topping off, then I would guess you are pouring too fast. AIr has to get out. Pour right down the middle. Make sure you top off quickly when the need is there.
alsworms
I am also using remelts will this be part of my issue? It's always best to buy your liquid plastic rather than remelt. It's next to impossible to tell what's in your store bought plastics. Otherwise, the fellas are dead on with their tips. Good luck!
boomah21
Liquid plastics is my next step...I was playing around with pop molds and remelts to make sure it was something I really enjoyed. Funny but everything I try when it comes to lure building because an addiction.....You would think that I would eventually just realize I have a problem

carolinamike
Listen to Al on this one. You'll be much better off with liquid plastic. Then save your used baits if you want to play with re-melts. That way you know exactly what's in your plastic, but keep in mind, that it still won't be the same plastic as when you first started. Adding a little plastic softener to it before you re-melt it helps. And as far as this addiction goes, I've never met anyone that has been rehabilitated. It's with you till you die! King Bait Co.
Don't ever remelt Berkley. It is the most nasty stink'n smelling stuff and the fumes will land you in the ER. I did it once NEVER NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
