joshimoto son
I couldn't sleep, so I just stayed up till three a.m. and messed around with some of the molds I picked up at Lure Craft. I used their plastic, paint, retarder, thinner and colorant too. I'm still strying to get better with the airbrush. As far as swimbaits go. Has anyone been having good success with them in the Michigan or tri-state area. I haven't gotten in the time I feel they deserve to give them a real test. joshimoto son
Just an after thought, I'm not trying to blow up LC's skirt. I just know a lot of people have questions about "how do some products work?" I just wanted to share some info. joshimoto son
Richard Prager
Very nice work! Which molds were those made from and did you dip in clear after painting? Thanks Richard

Smallie
Nice baits Joshimoto Son - I haven't tried fishing swimbaits yet but I did buy some over the winter to see if they are something I want to start pouring. I haven't heard much in New Hampshire about people having success but sometimes that just means it is being kept quiet. Time will tell. King Bait Co.
Swimbaits don't seem to be a constant bite yet. I will throw one say for an hour and diffrent speed and depth and not get a bite. I have caught about for fish on them all keepers. They all were with Big Bite Baits blue gill color. I have the Bass magic With 0 hits and the fat head jr with 0 hits also. Now my ideas on fishing with cheaper lures has worked agian. The Big Bite baits our $5.99 for four five inch swim baits. Their web site is Big Bite Baits Now I am giving the address so you can see them they have a hook slot but they have fins on them unlike the others I have seen and used, Now if sombody makes them like that PM me I may want some. Angler310
Hey Smallie was up on 3 ponds last week end with my nephew, caught a couple of nice smallies on the swim baits I been pourin. they work great. by the way if you happen to catch a 2-3lb smallie with a rapala x-rap in its mouth let me know. the kid tryied to hoist it over the side of the boat with an ultra lite and 6lb test. that was a quick 6 bucks.. angler310
King Bait Co.
Ya but its the best six bucks spent to see his face when it broke. Also a great story and now you can poke a little fun at him:whistle:

outdooradvantage
Never fished a swim bait before, is there a rule of thumb on how to fish them? Thanks, Jeff.......
King Bait Co.
Tonight I went out and caught twelve Largemouth bass on them. It was with the Big Bite Baits 5" bluegill color swimbait. They have the hook slot on the end but the cool thing is they have a top fin if you use 3/0 weighted wide gap the hook goes thourgh that fin a fits perfect in the body. I use a pflueger 5:1:1 baitcaster to help keep me reeling them slow and the action is pefect in my opinion. I think I control the depth by having the rod tip up for the top and down for deeper. The speed plays a big part in it to. After you use them awhile you kinda get your own thing going that works for you. I throw mine into weeds alot and that seeems to work or I keep them on the weed line. I did hit some in open water also. I don't think their is a rule on them its one of thoes baits that user friendly. Like a buzzbait.
King Bait Co.
Sorry that one is a little dirty. That is the one that caught all the fish tonight and its held up like know other. So joshimoto son if you could pour some like this let me know. If the ones you make know look great is their a way to add a top fin.

I was surprised that the water was only 60 - 62 degrees. The prespawn largemouth were on fire. Didn't fish for smallmouth as I wanted to get a big largie. Biggest fish was 4.2. I am going to make an effort to get into the six pound club this year. I keep coming close but no cigar. What color is the x-rap?
Angler310
Smallie gold with black back, lost it on the on of the rocky flats behind the marina. What color is your boat, I was on the lake monday as well. We probobly crossed paths and didn't even realize it. I have a Nitro 929 CDX green and White, I would be the fat guy on the trolling motor and the kid is 6'5" on the rear. Unfortunately the small mouth for the most part have moved off the beds. Will try to get back on the lake next weekend and hopefully the wind won't blow as hard as it did last Monday.
Smallie
Black hull with red top. Its a 1988 Ranger that I have owned since 1992 so it is in very good condition - the red still shines! I fished in the little cove across from that rockpile briefly - there was too much of that white cotton stuff from the trees. It kept building up on the line and winding up on the spool. Most of my fish came from Northeast Pond and they all came from plastics I poured. Makes you feel good at the end of the day when your own stuff is working. The fish haven't spawned yet and the fronts that keep coming through have driven them off the beds. Every fish was fat and healthy. Did catch a couple with deformed jaws from the guys that like to do the "cross their eyes, power hooksets". With todays hooks, there is no need for that. It is sad to see fish abused like that. joshimoto son
Sorry for not getting back over the weekend, don't have internet at home. Yes, I did dip them in clear after I painted them. I originally just dipped the head to keep the eyes on, and when I seen how much more the clear dip made the colors "pop", I just dipped em completely. I gotta check on the model numbers for the molds. I can never remember that stuff. As far as rigging them... They're gonna require a pretty big hook, since they're solid bodies. I made them up for a freind of mine who lives in Florida just south of Lake Kissimee. He wants to play around with them. The only thing I've been able to catch on the swimbait here in Michigan so far is pike. I've had some bass follow it up to the boat, but nothing big. It's really hard to tell how well they're gonna work right now, most of the fish around here are in such a post spawn funk, it's been hard to get a bite. I'll keep trying it. joshimoto son
King Bait Co.
joshimoto son do the pike tear them up? or do they last for a few more?
joshimoto son
King Bait, I've only been throwing the tube minnows I'm making, and so far... the pike have not damaged them to the point of only one use. I can see, given some of the slashes on the tails, if they happened to be in the right spot it would be done for. joshimoto son
captsully18
[quote name= As far as rigging them... This gives a pocket for the hook to ride in and don't need a gigantic hook, bait hangs straighter, easier to get a good hook set. Been doing this with mine whether they are solid or hollow. Works like a charm. David
ottoman
As far getting the hook in them, I saw this on the boob tube; I will try to explain in type. Take the point of the hook and go in about a quarter of an inch thru the nose, and poke it thru the plastic towards the belly. Pull the hook out and run the eye of the hook from the under the belly thru the hole you made. This way you don
BigBassBo
Ottoman, thats how I rig 90% of my swimbaits right now. I have caught, and seen, too many big fish caught on swimbaits here in kansas not to fish them.
