anise scent

Recommended Posts

Do you guys mix it into your baits when the plastic is hot?

I have a bottle of the stuff and have mixed it with vasoline and use it as a rub on the bait before casting.

I would rather mix it into the bait.

What amount do you use and at what point in the process?

Thanks,

Willy

i put it in the hot plastic. i made some black crul tails black purple flake. took 24 worms with me sunday on a 200 acre lake that gets pounded. talked to a guy that was fishing by me said he hasn`t had a bite. i got about 20 yds past him and caught a three pounder. i caught 11 bass and missed a bunch. i came home with 4 worms.the scent is strong and stays in the bait. no spraying anything on them. i am getting ready to make a bunch tonight. i have a 4oz jar and just pour it in. maybe a teaspoon in 2 oz of plastic or more. its really potant. i no the use to put in baits years ago but havn`t seen it lately in store bought baits.

oh yea i love catchin bass on baits i make

It mask the human scent from the fish. The tackle shop I go to they have that on their store brand (mass produced). I have caught a ton of fish with them. I must admit I love their verson of the Brush Hog I know its selling out but I have to use a full round on brush hogs. I think anise is the same as black liquarish ( sorry I have know idea on the spelling its candy). I have found it in the spice ile at the store.

Anise is an excellent scent in my area. Somewhere I read something about anise being a cheap ploy by the mass producers to hide the smell of their plastic but I don't leave home without it. I put it in my baits when mixing the plastic.

Don't buy the anise extract from the supermarket. It is mostly water.

i was told by a friend not to use anise star. she makes a sportsman soap and said the star is just not as good so i bought the pure stuff. i never used anise star so i don`t know what the differance is. but the stuff i am using does not take much. it is potent and the fish seem to love it. going to hit the lake in the morning and just made 24 7in curl tails with it and also some 10 1/2 in tricks. will let you know how i do. we had about 6 in rain the last 2 days hope the lake is ok.

I’ve seen references to both anise oil and star anise oil and have wondered myself if there is a difference, so I did a little research…

Anethole is an aromatic, unsaturated ether compound that accounts for the distinctive “licorice” flavor of anise and star anise. It may also be referred to as p-propenylanisole, anise camphor, isoestragole, or oil of aniseed. It is closely related to estragole, an aromatic compound found in tarragon and basil. Anethole is distinctly sweet as well as having its flavoring properties and is measured to be 13 times sweeter than sugar. [Wow - we can tie in chemical engineering, bait making, and food preparation as our hobbies now!]

My understanding is that both anise oil and star anise oil are distilled from several different plant species. But the bottom line is that the anise oil contains a higher percentage of anethole than the star anise oil.

Hope this helps.

Rick
