oldschoolbasser
Since Ambassadeur reels are a favorite subject of mine,I was wondering if any of the fellas out there use them for flippin'?The reason I ask is because about 25 years ago I modified my reel for this specific purpose.I took a spring off the brake plate so the reel would re-engage when I took my thumb off the thumbbar. This relieved me of having to turn the handle to re-engage the gears. It also works great for vertical jigging, just press the thumbbar to let a little line out and let go to engage the gears.Let me know if anybody has done this, just wanted to get more people talking about reels.TL's Oldschool
Palmetto Balsa
I use my 4600C4 to Flip, Pitch and Skip. No mods to it, other than keeping it clean. I fish it with about 14lb copolymer and it works better if I keep the line on the spool a little less than full. I have too many Ambassadeur reels to count. I had to modify my Eon reels a short while after I purchased them, but they are now retired.
Tony Maxwell
I use 2500Cs as my pitching reels exclusively. I bought 2 of them new and have added 2 more from Ebay. They work better than the new ones and I never changed over to the thumbar type reels anyway.
BobP
My main flipping/pitching reel is a circa 1970 Ambassadeur Pro Max 3600 - no mods except for ABEC-7 spool bearings and changing out the stock 5.3 gears for 6:1 gears. Slick little reels and smooth as glass.
