King Bait Co.
I sealed some POP molds with pure Elmers glue. I didn't use a 50/50 mix of Elmers and water. Has anybody else done this? I am letting them set for a day or two before I use them or sell them on eBay. Was wondering how well this will hold up?
Vodkaman
It should hold up fine, provided you let it harden properly. Give it 24 hours in a warm, dry room. The 50/50 is liked because the first two coats soak well into the surface of the mold and provide a good bind and resistance to pealing off when de-molding. Also, the mixture is so thin, very little detail is lost. A single coat of elmers is still thin and should preserve detail well. I also like to add elmers to the water part of the plaster mix. This makes the mold a bit stronger and eliminates that powdery feel that pure PoP molds have. You need to experiment with all the ideas and choose what works for you. A thread, reporting back about what you tried and your views on the subject would be useful. As this is one of those subjects that comes up often and needs re-evaluation at least once a year, to gather up the latest views and techniques. Vodkaman
I am experimenting with 10 - 20% of the water. The PoP obviously takes a lot longer for all the elmers/PoP mix to totally harden, to get the max strength, as the mold dries from the outside, in. But it does not affect the functionality of the PoP mold as dried in the normal way. In other words, you can use the mold as normal. I would start off with 10%. Sorry about the poor explanation.
