snookin4
Okay, if you read my first post you have already figued out I may be a little off..... Has anyone tried mixing something like Glory-hole dry chum or Purina Fish Chow in with their soft plastics? I fish mostly saltwater and would like to make grubs/shrimp that leave a excellent scent trail. Thanks
BumBaits
I am trying purified shrimp in some of my plastics...but the consistency is giving me grief, kinda like mixing oil and water, they don't want to merge. Dropping small bits in seems to be working out better...I only wonder what type of scent trail they will leave...A few of the baits have turned out alright, but it would be hard to turn a production out of it right now...I hope to have something figured out before April, when the specks start moving back in from the oyster reefs.... snookin4
What about freeze dried shrimp? Pet stores have krill that's freeze dried. I'm not really worryed about mass producing......... well maybe
basskat
I've tried freeze dried crawfish in mine. It seems to lose it's smell when it's cooked in. Keep us posted.
earthworm77
How about pulverizing the shrimp so it becomes a powder. That should work. It shouldn't gak up the pouring spout.

I was thinking that might be a problem, that's why I was wondering about using the Glory-hole dry chum or Purina Fish Chow. Fish Chow is a popular chum in saltwater here, I was thinking it might hold up with the heat. I'll be getting a few basic supplies soon and will post back how it works out. I'm trying to get a better version of the Exudes. Bum, What about creating a pocket in the center and filling it with an attractant? Kindda like the pocket for a weight on the DOA shrimp. BumBaits
THis sounds crazy BUT, since we're talking MAD EXPERIMENTS anyway , lol, I did this yesterday...... If you don't know there is a fish called a betta, my wife has one of these fish in a vase, and they can be found is just about any pet store....well they have different types of food for these fish...there is one in particular that is called betta bites. It is small, coarse, black pellets, that are ground up fish and the boogers are oily. I ground the stuff up and I mean GROUND IT UP...to a VERY sine powder/oily mixture....I then poured some of my fay belly baits...When pouring I poured a thin layer of plastic in the bottom of the mold and then added some of the ground betta bites an then filled the remainder of the mold with HOT plastic.... As for a finished product they seem to hold up well together. I rigged one up and went out in the street, 12am in the morning freezin my tail off, and cast up and down the street trying to beat the thing up and it help up well...best of it STINKS, as in smells like fish... . I'll see how they actually fair around the fish when I head down after Christamas....

MarshManiaC
I have been experimenting on the same thing to flavor my plastic crabs. I have found that adding a good amount of Pro-Cure shrimp scents into the plastic befor it gets hot give the bait a really, really shrimpy smell. When I take it out of the mold I put it into a plastic container with some of the goop in it hoping it soaks in more as it cools. I then marinate them before I throw them. I have counted 30 casts with 4 fish and it still gives off a nice oil slick and smells shrimpy.
dlaery
I use to work for a company that made feed for hogs. We used fish meal in the hog feed. Then later I worked for a tackle company that repackaged plastic worms, these had the same smell as the fish meal, I don't remember the brand of worms but they were popular, it seems they were a name brand. Mercury
...best of it STINKS, as in smells like fish... . I'll see how they actually fair around the fish when I head down after Christamas.... Thats why I use the Pro-Cure threadfin shad. Smells like baitfish, and its oil based even holds up well in water. Threadfin shad has actual shad ground up in the mix, Not just oils or other synthetic smells. But I have to say your on to somthing.... Might be good to add to somthing that has black glitter in it. cavu
Another thing that will help, once you have the scent thing figured out is to vaccum pack the lures. Only vaccum pack as many as you think you will use on one trip.
snookin4
Where do you get the Pro-cure? Also, who has the best supplies ( I use both retailers and wholesale suppliers) Soft plastics is going to be for personal use, I just love it when someone asks where they can buy something I'm using and I can say "Oh, I made It"

MarshManiaC
I looked high and low for crab scent and couldn't find any....what I did was use craw scent and tweak it with the shrimp sauce.
