PoP 2 Piece Mold

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Well thanks to you guys I have been making some successful 1 piece molds and pouring some nice perch plastics that have been catching fish and I am now onto 2 piece molds. I was wondering what you guys think or do about setting the master into the PoP. On an average how soon do you put the master in once you pour the 1st layer of PoP? Do you do it when it is still very wet or when it starts to harden, then push it in? Any comments would help. I thought I would add that I was using a (roughly) 4x8 clear Plano tackle box that has 5 narrow compartments for my 1st molds, then once I poured some good ones I would make a larger 6-8 cavity mold out of something else. It just seemed easy to work with the small Plano box to not have to mix alot of plaster and easy to knock it out of the Plano.

Fraley,

I put my masters in right after you pour it in. I would not wait until it starts to harden, you will run out of time. Especially if you are doing multiple cavities. Let the first layer dry completely before doing the second layer. Use a release agent on the first layer before pouring the second. I use durhams water putty but it acts pretty much the same as plaster. hope this helps.

Slightly off subject, but I am concerned about the lure trays. Don't skimp on the plaster depth. You need at least one inch thickness of plaster around the cavity. Too thin and the mold will snap too easily. This has happened to me a couple of times. OK, more than a couple of times.
