CreekMonster
I had alittle extra time today so I was browsing ebay looking for some cranks and checking out the custom painted lures as I sometimes do. I couldn't help but notice that every single item (both custom and factory painted) I looked at had something in common. The high bidder's name on every one of the auction's started with a letter, had 3 *,and ended with a letter, for example: "J***K. Is this some sort of secret society I don't know about?...LOL....I can be a bit of a conspiracy theorist at times ya know..... I looked at 20 to 25 auctions and this was the case in every single one of them. Anybody know anything? Just curious, you can check it out for yourself, I find it kinda weird....lol Jay
Spike-A-Pike
I have always thought of eBay as a curiosity; sort of like watching dog or horse racing, fun to watch but I wouldn't bet money on the results. With the recent changes to eBay's policies for conducting transactions and less than equal feedback for sellers, I'm happy I never really got into it - I may look it over from time to time, but it's like playing high risk stocks on Wall and Dune, and my blood pressure can do without it. Richard Prager
E-bay now blocks or hides high bidders' ID from being seen by everyone except the seller. Only after the item is sold will the winner's ID be made available. If you are bidding on an item, you can no longer tell who is bidding against you. jimmie7915
I sell alot of my cranks on ebay and I can tell you that I hate the new stuff they are doing. They block out your name so that you cant see who is bidding on what items unless they win the item. I never have or never will jack up the price of my baits but there are a couple of guys on there getting ridiculous prices for baits that look no better than anyone elses and you can't look anymore to see if it is the same handful of people running this stuff up! Now when people like J.T. get skyrocketed prices I understand it, in my opinion he is the best in the world hands down no questions asked. But when some of these other guys are getting $142 for rapalas it kind of makes you wander! This is just my 2 cents worth sorry to ramble! Jimmie Edited August 8, 2008 by Spike-A-Pike
RipLip
I've had good luck and bad luck through Ebay. One thing for certain is the prices are skyrocketing in every category. There still is a place for the honest hardworking people but it is getting smaller and smaller. Others are jacking the prices and making normal prices look like they are....whats the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah junk or not good enough. The sad part is people are following suit, they think the most expensive anything out there must be better. Thats killing some people trying to sell at a reasonable price because it is sending out a message that isn't exactly true. The good thing is there are still plenty of people out there that will try the cheap stuff and realize it isn't cheap. Sorry for the ramble but hopefully someone can understand my weird thinking, if not forget I said anything.
CreekMonster
I got some good deals some time ago on ebay. A few antique reels and a lure or 2, but in the past year, I've bid on a few items, and in the last seconds, and I mean the last seconds, somebody outbids me. How they do this I have no idea. A stopwatch maybe?lol. The funny thing is I saw people paying more for factory lures than they would pay at a local store and then anther $5 shipping. Its crazy. And as far as the custom painted lures, its up and down. One minute somebody's paying $1000 dollars for a plastic custom made trout swimbait, the next minute they won't even bid 25% of the retail of a rapala that's been custom painted by an obvious pro. Well, that's enough ranting for me, ya know, I think I just hijacked my own thread......LOL.......oh well ....
Richard Prager
You've been sniped! It's a program you can download in which you can enter the auction item, your high bid and how close to the ending of the auction you'd like to enter that bid. I think you can get as close as two seconds to end time. I've seen alot of used items fetch more money than the item sells for new. You're right, then a couple of days later you can get the same item for next to nothing. Alot of people get caught up in that "adrenilne rush" of bidding and refuse to be outdone no matter the cost. gunnie3035
Ok, I'm going to cry about the other end of the spectrurm for a minute. These jokers selling items at below cost is killing everyone; $10 for 100 stick baits?? $6 for 10 7/0 weighted swimbait hooks?? To top it off they are shipping the item below cost too. I keep wishing they will go away, but when one leaves another one pops up.......
Vodkaman
Gunnie, I wouldn't worry about them. Most buyers would be worried about being ripped off or the quality. Generally, you get what you pay for. You don't really want the type of customer that shops in the gutters. Hand pours are a quality product and discerning buyers know this fact. CreekMonster
Funny you should bring this up, I bought some "senko" types awhile back at a pretty good buy(so I thought). They looked good, real good. They even looked good in my hand after I got them. But they smelled horrible, like plastic, almost like a solvent. I said "oh well" and took them with me fishing. The fish were bashing my Yamamoto's so I decided to give them a try, what better time? They hit 'em, but spit 'em out faster than I could set the hook, like they were poison. After a couple of strikes on the bait, they wouldn't even go near it. So I put the Yamamoto back on, and what'll ya know, I'm catching fish again. a bargain, maybe, but the fish didn't like 'em, and that's what really matters. To sum it up, $10 a 100= no fish. $6 for 10= Lottsa fish. lol..... you do the math...lol.....P.S. Yamamotos are not the only ones that catch fish, I've had some good results from some quality knock off's that are a little less expensive. Ya know, you get what you pay for, and that old saying still rings pretty true, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" Being the bargain hunter I am, I just have to be reminded of that every now and again..lol.. you'd think I would have learned by know.. just my Jay
