Zbass
Should I coat lead jigheads with something before pouring them into my swimbaits? I don't want to get that lead/plastic reaction that happens over time. What should I use? Thanks Zbass
COBRA
i always just pour onto the lead. some paints cant handle the plastic heat and it gets ugly. never really thought of coating the head itself, leads oxidation is just crazy. Kajan
If your worried you could put powder paint on the jighead lead , clear if you don't want to change the color or you could change the color and make some interesting color combinations prob. I never did that, I always use jigheads seperate from my lures. But I am not sure if the powder paint can take the heat of the plastic. Would be easy to try one to find out. Spike-A-Pike
Most powder paints are applied with the lure/jig heated. After you have finished painting and before you use them, you have to cure the paint in an oven or toaster oven at 350F for about 20 minutes. Most of the paints I have tried cure with a smooth, gloss finish. I understand there are also clearcoats that you can add it gloss or flat finish. Kajan
Spike a pike, I never put mine in an oven. Heat/paint reheat/second cote let cool few mins. The clear was called silver smith but Color rite is shut down. Will have to try other brands.
