rsinyard
Ok. First let me say I am accepting donations for my future divorce because I am hooked on pouring. The wife was already complaining that I was spending to much time making jigs. Now to my questions: 1. When I heat my plastic in my pyrex cup should it be smoking while I am pouring? Does that mean it is too hot? 2. How do you guys clean up your cup after you are done pouring? Thanks
tylerd1994
Yeah I think its a little too hot when its smoking. And I just peel out the plastic in the pyrex cup then if it needs it i wash it in the sink
Richard Prager
Mine usually smokes a little. You can try taking off 30 seconds from the initial blast. I don't pour with any salt. In most cases, using one cup of M-F regular, it's ready to pour at 2:40 on high. Without using salt, I can heat for that amount of time and usually pour out the entire cup. If need be, I can heat another 30 seconds and finish what's left in the cup. If you have a few cups, you can pour one out, and set it aside when you're done. Then, pour out your second cup and by the time you pour that out, your first cup will be cool enough to peel out the leftovers and ready to use. Tell her she can keep the house. All you want is the garage!

rxfish
I know a guy in this same situation. He refused to give her a divorce so she ended up paying for it. Seriously, I hope it never comes to that. I get my wife involved by having her bag the baits while she watches TV and I give her a few bucks to boot. She likes the casino. Wiping the pirex out with a rag is usually all it takes. I don't like the idea of using water in the shop for anything. Water and plastic usually don't mix. I think all plastics smoke or give off fumes to some degree regardless of the temperature.
pastorshane
Mine smokes a little some times as well. I don't worry about it.

I just read my wife your post. I asked her if she would like to bag baits. She stopped what she was doing and then gave me this "look" and then continued what she was doing. You think that means no? Vodkaman
Rsinyard. When you calculate the cost of your new hobby, you also have to factor in the occasional box of chocolates, bunch of flowers, cinema tickets, new pair of shoes and salon expenses. Bass-Boys
I have found that it depends on the room temp when you pour. Kinda like if its colder out side, you can see your breath, when its warmer, you can not.. even though your breath is the same temp. So some times I get Smoke ( or steam ) coming off the plastic and some times I do not.. Does this make ant sense ? Jeff
daveh
it will smoke.
rsinyard
Thanks guys. I will start putting 10% of any lure sales into a "Make the wife happy" fund. I went back and watched the tutorial again. I heated 2oz of plastic the same amount of time as he did for 4 oz. No wonder it was smoking. One Sock
the bigger question is...who's plastic are you using? yeah, I once asked my wife to bag baits, the quickest way to have her avoid your worm is to ask her to bag your worms:teef:
rsinyard
I am using M-F plastic. I have tried different times with my microwave. If I cook 2 oz for 1 minute stir and then heat 20 more seconds, it seems to be working pretty good with no as much smoke. I have found that if I use the purple color that I have to heat it longer for some reason. Anyway, you have to be an old moonshiner to pour the 1 piece molds. I can see it is going to take a while to be able to pour the brush hog.
One Sock
you might be surprised how long it actually takes to learn how to pour one piece molds, for the average person that is, some poeple are just born shakey and should stick to 2 piece molds That being said, it seems to be your amount of time your heating plastic, 2 ounces is not very much plastic and will smoke a lot if there is too much heat, experiment on different settings and differnt amounts of time to get where you need to be. I know with many of my colors I have to change the power level when re-heating or doing a second heat, smoke with purple might be my best example.. the purple flake bleeds like a pig even with adjusted temp on the micro. I hate the color personally and was thinking of doing away with it, but now I got some cool non bleed purple flake and all is good with the world. You really need to experiment with all the colors plastics and flakes out there a little at a time, most of the big 3 sellers will gladly include some samples with an order if you ask nicely. All 3 sellers have plus's and minus's when it comes to customer service but overall you can depend on all 3 to answer your questions and help you with whatever you need, I have never really had what you would call a bad customer service experience with any, combine the people that sell supplies with the knowledge base on here and you can not go wrong...unless you were one of those shakey people to begin with..then you might just want to take up model airplanes or stamp collecting:)
JeffJ
One Sock, where do you get your non-bleed flake from? I have the same color scheme and dont want that to happen.
One Sock
Got it from a company in germany, very difficult and slow response from them but eventually got what I needed, I can't really say non bleed, but it's good to 400 degrees maybe even a bit higher, it also a dark purple, unlike the lavender and bright bright purple most are selling. I have a few ounces as a sample and will be ordering soon, would be more than happy to cut some of you in on some if you want, it was not a lot but shipping was a bit high, will have to work that out in quantity with the distributor, they also have a awesome green that's is beyond anyone's else's, I can post some images of all the manufacturers colors so you can see if you want
JeffJ
Yea if you can post some pics of the sample colors you got from them would be great!!!

I'm good for 1/2 lb is that is possible. Finding this purple would be comprable to The Red Sox finally winning that World Series. It's ok to die now! One Sock
Yeah I know what you mean, let me get some pictures up to show you what your dealing with, I have to place another order soon and have no problem splitting some up as minimum orders are 10 pounds per color per size, as you can imagine, I have no need for 10 pounds of anything..except maybe beer, do they sell beer in 10 pound containers? One Sock
here is the purple in a clear type stickbait, it is actually a bit darker, still working on my home made light tent and need a different bulb, but pictures are clear this was also a remelt after the intial pour to see if it would bleed, didn't see no change until the 4th or 5th time being remelted
rsinyard
I would also like to get some of the purple flake from you. One of the hot colors on the Tennessee River this year has been the smoke with purple flake. Let us know when you get some in.
One Sock
yeah smoke with purple flake is a very good seller for me,apparently it is similiar to a color that some company or another use to call ozark smoke. Truth of the matter is purple is one of my go to colors, especially in green pumpkin with red and copper flake
