baitntackle
I'm making some resin molds, but not sure what type of resin (brand) to use. I made some out of napa's fiberglass , but they don't turn out as nice as ones I've seen on here. Can anyone please help! Thanks Rob
bear21211
Rob Most use Bondo brand resin. Yesterday I was at lowes and they had a gallon of Elmer's brand for 32.00 I bought a gallon of it and poured a mold yesterday evening that came out well. It is not quite as dark as the Bondo but still came out nice.
baitntackle
Where do they sell the bondo brand resin? What type of store? Thanks for the response! Robbie
Richard Prager
Automotive supply stores have it and probably Wal-mart also.
Zbass
baitntackle, The only resin I use is Bondo brand. I get it at Home Depot. A gallon is around $35.00. Just make sure to make the mold thick as to combat the warping issue that exists with resin molds. Hope that helps. Zbass
Smallie
When you say make the mold thick, what thickness are you talking? How many molds in the 4 x 5 inch range would a gallon make?
texasbass1
You can get the resin at BPS, Auto zone and O'Reilly's too.
Zbass
I usually make mine about 3/4" thick depending on the bait. Even if it is a thin worm I will go 5/8" to 3/4" thick. The reason I do this is because I ran into a small warping problem on thinner molds when I tried to pour a bunch of baits. It hasn't happened often, but I only pour small amounts. (100 or less in a day). As far as how many 4x5 molds can you get from a gallon, for that size mold it will take 8 to 9 oz of resin. That will get you approx 13 to 15 molds depending on thickness. Hope that helps. Zbass
Smallie
Thanks Zbass - I haven't poured resin molds yet but the rainy Saturday forecast for this weekend should end that. Thanks again.
