drof99
Hi guys. My name is Ryan and I just stumbled across this site doing some searching. What a cool site! I have never poured or made my own tackle. I like to do things for myself instead of letting others. I do alot of reloading for hunting and shooting. Done some tanning on hides. I've even got into making leather goods for myself, like holsters and bow equipment. Now I'd like to learn this as well. It will be pretty much for my own personal use or some close friends. I'm not looking to make money at it, just save some. So after the introduction I've got a couple of questions. Anyway I can talk someone into making a basic list of the items needed. I really like using Berkley's 10 power worm. It has a twister tail on it. I'd like to make some of those if possible. I've done some looking around and don't know if I like the 1 piece mold. As I understand it, it will leave a flat side on one side of the worm. Berkley has this a little, I think. What do you guys suggest for molds, one or two piece? I like some of the molds that I saw on Del's site but don't know if I can drop the money on those yet. Are there any comparible alternatives? If not I understand. Should I just wait and get some of those? Another bait I like to throw are tubes. I believe I'm throwing 4 or 5" tubes right now. What are the good places to supplies from? Any other things that someone completely new should know? Sorry for such the lost post, I'm just interested in getting started. I've just started small time bass tourneys and would love to win one using my own baits. Thanks in advance for the help. I'll be looking forward to your answers. Delw
always start as cheap as you can as you might not like doing it and you tied up a bunch of money insomething thats going to sit in the closet. for tubes its as simple as getting a #2 pencil and dipping it in plastic 2-4 times. thats the easiest and cheapest way to start. fishface
On the main forums screen you will see a member submitted tutorial section. There is one titled An Introduction to Pouring Plastics. It is located under soft plastics how to. Has some really great info. MTfishingrods
I am sure you have figured this out with your other hobbies but I dont think you really end up saving any money. Sure We all can pour a worm or build a lure cheaper than buying one, but look around at anyone of our shops and start adding up the price tags and most of us could fill a couple lifetimes worth of tackle boxes and I could outfit several fishing fleets with rods and reels. So I guess what I am saying is good luck if your trying to save money, but welcome to the addiction. Dels site is a great place to start. rsinyard
2 things before you get started...... 1. Build up a lot of vacation at work because you will want to be in the garage all the time tinkering with colors/glitters etc. 2. Find a good divorce lawyer. You will need him. If you are married your wife will accuse you of cheating. Just not with another woman. There are 3 things that changes a man's life. 1. The day he gets married 2. The day his first child is born 3. The day he begins making fishing lures.

One Sock
yeah if you are looking to save money then just buy them from the store, chances are they will not have all the colors you want and that alone will save you money as far as the spouse thing goes everything they say is true..., it's getting to the point where I have to tell my wife I was at the strip club in order to account for the excessive amount of glitter on me.. it kind of goes like this... no honey I swear, I was at the strip club, I wasn't making worms:nuhuh:
