drof99
As some of you know I'm very new to pouring (never poured one..yet). I'm just trying to get everything in order first. I've been doing alot of reading here. I up to page 15 out of eleventy-billion. I'm going to try the microwave method I believe. My question is this. Can I replace a Pyrex cup with one of the glass measuring cups for microwave use? I was looking at Del's cite and think I've narrowed it down to a stik starter kit. I would buy one of the pyrex cups from him but don't see it anywhere on his site. I'm going to place the order tonight. Once again thanks for any help you can give. nova
Go with the pyrex; don't scrimp on quality, it's too dangerous. Sometime they come on sale(at least they do here) and you can get a 1 cup, a 2 cup, and a 4 cup in a package for around $10. www.novalures.com
MONKEYqpHUNTER
i agree with nova on this the plastic out of the microwave will sometimes be alot hotter than need be.you dont want 350-400 degree plastic splashing on your lap were your cup cracked from the heat.wal-mart k-mart target even you grocery store will have real pyrex. bojon
I agree.Go with Pyrex, also be careful not to place the cup, when it is full of hot plastic,on a cold surface. It will shatter. Also if the cup becomes nicked, replace it.Follow these hints and the Pyrex cup will be a excellent investment for years to come. Richard Prager
After I remove the Pyrex cup from the microwave, I set it on a brazing board. It retains the heat in the cup as well as avoiding contact with any cold surface. They are cheap, too! This is what I solder jewelry on so it's made to take the heat. One Sock
bed bath and beyond has them all the time, it's the only time I agree to go shopping with the wife as i know I can always throw a few in the cart that she will never know anchor or any of the others, and you are just asking to get burned, garage sales are a great place to find them as well, I found 3 of them for 2.00 not too long ago
Delw
Pryrex is the best, Anchor works just as good, been using anchor for years, anything else I have no experiance on and can't give you input
One Sock
might have to re-visit the anchor del, had nothing but problems, seems the spout is a bit different and plastic seems to bubble more for me...
