2 piece molds?

Recommended Posts

The member submitted tutorials has a few tutorials on the subject.

Do you plan to use plaster of paris or RTV?

I did an advanced search on 'piece mold' for the 'soft plastics' forum. It came up with 275 replies, so didn't help much, too much reading. I then searched on 'making piece mold pop vent', this produced 3 replies. Still probably not what you are looking for.

The best way to go about it is to read some, then search on specific words for more detailed information. But the tutorials section has everything you need in one package.

If you cannot find any specific information, then post a question. You will get far more response that way. Answering how to make a 2 pc mold could take hours, answering a specific question, only minutes.

Hope this helps. Read some and ask away.

GMan - Everything you'll need to know about making and pouring 2-piece molds from plaster of Paris (PoP or POP) can be found within this site. All the pages concerning this subject would fill a book. UNFORTUNATELY, all the pages of the book are scattered throughout this forum. Do what I did when I first came here. Spent an hour or two going through 6 months to a year's worth of posts on this subject. Use the search feature. Make copies and take notes. You're gonna get hooked!!!

GMAN:

Be glad to send you an email with steps. It would be off the top of my head but I make several pop molds every week. I think I can spit it our pretty consise but detailed enough for you to make things work.

What type of bait are you considering molding in 2 piece?

attaching soft plastics to bottom of pan for mold making?

When I searched I searched the words POP, Plaser of Paris, Durham, DWP and found many leads to 2-piece molds.

One thing I will add that is not in my post or ones I read, if you have narrows or thin areas it is very difficult to get the plastic through. You need vents. I found instead of molding in the vents I cut the channels on one side of the 2-piece mold with dremel points, works as well and is easier. Sometimes I cut a lattice of a feeder channel that branches off to the vent points. That feeder has one exit and I cut a hole big enough to take 1/2 inch plastic tubing and I hook that to my shop vac with duct tape. I tried air mattress pumps and the pressure needed is only delivered by a vacuum cleaner. Search Vacuum, vacuum venting, vacuum injection as these lead also to 2-piece mold hints. I now pour my molds under vacuum as you see in my links.

you can see the venting in my pictures, here is a post with molded in vents, well done too,

Lattice but venting is individual through tail hole

two piece molds using the flat side method, mold can be used one or two piece

My best advice is echoing the rest--Get good with Key word searches. Good luck!

Its fun!
