Mac10
Start with red thread, I prefer flat waxed 3/0 or equivilent......attach thread at back end of shaft, tie on two small black hackle feathers sticking out the back end about 1/2 to 3/4 inch....tie off and at that point attach a piece of red yarn and tie off, then run thread ahead about 3/16 inch. Wrap red yarn tightly and take enough turns to create a small ball, then catch with thread and tie off. Now, just in front of the red yarn ball, tie on a large black hackle and wrap three to four times before tying off, clipping and whip finishing on the shaft of the hook near the eye. In effect, you have a very short wooly worm in front of the ball. As the lure is pulled through the water, the large hackle will pulse backwards and still stay somewhat flared as it comes in contact with the ball.....somewhat similar to the effect of a rooster tail hook, but with some added color from the rear view. An inline spinner with a gold blade, black body, red bead and the above tail works well on certain trout species in the area...so should work for small and largemouth as well as crappie and other fish. Good fishing, Mac10
