drof99
I got my order from Del yesterday. It's very busy around the house right now but I couldn't help myself. I just had to try. I've been doing a TON of reading here of old threads and how to's. Well this is what my first ones look like. The one piece mold was a little tougher than I thought. I only got one to look the way I liked it. Its a little tougher pouring those tails. I don't think the sticks came out too bad. I really don't care too much for the color Black Grape. I used Del's directions for sticks off his site. I need to get more molds. I split everything in half and still had extra plastic. What do you guys do to store the plastic that you have colored/salted? I did get one small dent on one of the sticks and some weird lines/cracks on some spots. Those defects aren't that noticable though. Any and all criticism or suggestions are very welcome. Thanks for all the help getting to this point guys. Great site to learn from. Bass-Boys
they look great,, you may have to add more color or shake the color up a lot more. Color will settle bad,, and needs to be shook up & shook up some more...I put the color bottle in the micro for a short burst like.. 20 -25 seconds or less if the bottle is small or is mostly gone..with the color warm not hot ...it shakes up better..Black grape should be darker than that. looks good so far.. !!!!! nova
Put a couple of SS nuts in the color bottle. This will help dispurse the color when you shake it.(sort of like rattle can paint) www.novalures.com
BJ TARR
Would BB's work as well, wasnt shure if they would mix better in the small 1 and 2 oz bottles?
nova
No the BB's tend to plug the hole once you turn the bottle upsidedown to put the color to the pastic. The nuts will also mix the sediment much quicker. www.novalures.com
Basseducer
Those little lines or cracks as you call them happen when the plastic stream touches the side of the cavity and hardens. This leaves a very thin strip of plastic up the side of the cavity. Then when the cavity fills all the wat it shows up as a line. those are hard to get away from when hand pouring. You always hear to pour a thin stream right down the center of the fill hole. A presto pot helps, but they still occur. I beleive injection is the only way to get rid of them. After all that, the fish don't care and sometimes that little line catches and reflects light in a different was and that can be good. JMHO. BJ TARR
Thanks and didn't even think about when you adding color that the BB's would block the nozzle, one step behind as usual
Ed Brabant
1/4 ball bearings do a great job blocking the holes as well. The nut idea is the best. Make sure you write down every formular that you try. Don't do like I did at first shoot from the hip. And when you start killing them on a color you can't reproduce you will see what I mean. Zbass
drof99, Those look great. Practice, practice, practice!!!! Document, document, document!!!! Before long you'll be pouring all kinds of stuff that right now you think "no way". Good luck and keep posting your results. Put some in the gallery too. One Sock
I use big split shots in my color bottles, they don't clog the nozzle and keep the colors stirred good
