northsea
Hello to all wondering if you could please help me out? Really enjoying reading through your posts and comparing how you do things. You guys are way ahead of us in mastering the Soft plastics. I'm from the UK looking for an alternative for Elmer's glue to use for sealing plaster molds. Is Elmer's glue a PVA glue? Any help on the matter is very much appreciated. Smallie
Yes, it is a PVA (Polyvinyl Acetate).
northsea
Thanks for the reply there Smallie. It seems that the popular mix for sealing a plaster mold is 50/50 Now that I've given one of my molds 3 coats (so far) The detail seems to have worn away a little on my twin tail mold. The tail looks fine but the body does not. Any ideas why this has happened? Should I be dabbing the mix on instead of brushing it? The mold I am sealing is about 5 days old so should have dries out well enough. I suppose it is possible I have added too much water. Might this have affected things? Also is it best to put on light coats instead of almost soaking it? LOL, really sorry about all these questions here but would really appreciate some help from you pro's out there. Smallie
I think a 50/50 mix is too much glue. Thin is out some more.
Vodkaman
I really swamp it for the first coat, Leave it to dry such that the excess can drain away. Then quick, brushed coats after that. Let it dry well between coats or the previous coat will just liquify. This could be what is causing your problem. Welcome to TU.
