I'm at work and neet some quick info

Recommended Posts

First of all let me all say i just joined up and i'm exited about making my own soft plastics. I am 25 and fish tournaments and thought this would be an excellent way to keep busy as i slow down for the winter months, I love doing things myself, so i really think i will enjoy this. also does anyone know if there is a mold that is anything close to the "lil" fishy? they are getting hard to come by in my area.

k now for my main question, i am fixing to plaxce an order today for some plastic to make crappie tubes, What brand is best and do i need softner or hardner to get the right consistency for crappie tubes?

thanks in advance.

Brett

Also one last thing, who has the best prices on plastic and colors online? LOL

First of all; welcome to the addition, lol.

If you have some of those baits you mentioned, you can make your own molds from POP(there are many posts on this subject, just do a search).

As for which plastic is the best; you will get many different answers.(each type has it's good points and bad).

Glitters and colors are pretty much the same pricepoint from place to place. Some companys have different colors than others and some companys need more drops of color than the other; but all have their benefits.

The one thing to remember is that shipping costs will kill you; so try to get most of your porduct in one place.( I get most of mine from Lurecraft because I've been dealing with them for years; first outlet I found; and they are closer to me than the others so shipping is a little cheaper.

If you need any help; let me know.

There are several different types of plastic, each with it's own application. I try not to complicate things too much. I use a "middle of the road" plastic and add hardner or softner as needed for the job I'm doing.

For tubes you need a slightly firmer plastic; but you have to remember that if you are adding salt to the formula this will also add stiffness to the product.

These are things that you have to finetune to your preferences.(not everyone likes the same thing). The more you play around(experiment); the more you will understand the products and what you can do with them.

Make sure you write down everything you do as you do it step by step on a piece of paper. If it works then you can put it into a "master cookbook" so you can repeat it. Do not trust your memory.

If You are new to "Dipping Tubes" I would suggest Bojon's CD .. It will help you not to make a lot of mistakes and will answer a lot of these questions (as will a "Search" for tubes in this Forum) ... Visual aids, such as this CD has helped me by "Seeing" what is done.

Hope this might Help
